I definitely do not want plates/screws/pins after surgery, so if I get the metal ones I will opt for surgery again to get them removed. There's pros and cons for both, what do you think is the better choice?

Metal - removable after 6 months, good if you need revision. However, another surgery means another set of incisions, another period of swelling and recovery, another risk for sagging, and another fee to pay.

Absorbable - don't need to opt for another surgery and all the things that come with it, but it will probably be hard to do any revision if necessary.

Obviously, nobody wants revision. But nothing can be fully guaranteed. Which one should I go with? :(

actually, i have not came across an "absorabable" screw type from my past research on double jaw surgery. im not 100% sure vline wouldn't require any screws/plates, from my understanding, it shouldn't involve any screws though. most of the time when affixing is required hence the use of screws, are more often cases which warrant a double jaw surgery (either forward, backward, tilting/rotating) where you are doing repositioning of your jaws. i suggest you speak about the pros and cons with your trusted OM surgeon to understand abit more.

my understanding is, titanium plates/screws are being used and they are very often not a problem to remain within the body. the only time when you might need to remove them is when somehow the site where the screws/plates are get infected, which usually is not due to the plates/screws but due to the wound getting infected etc. depending on the complexity, it's also best not to remove them (from my personal understanding).

if your concern is removing so as to allow better opportunity for a revision, i think your initial check up within the first month and second month should have allow you to determine whether the operation is a success or not? you should have a updated copy of your CT & X-rays. i would reckon if they look fine within the first 6 months of your surgery, it shouldn't suddenly make you feel like you need a revision surgery. sagging or laxity of skin vs positioning of your jaws are different issue for instance.

personally, as much as i like the idea of not having the presence of the screws/plates within my bones, but if there's no infection and they heal well, im personally more incline to leaving them in as i do feel that they would "hold" better. then again, if you have concerns such as whether it would hinder other treatments such as use of radiofrequency treatment on your face etc, just speak to your surgeon to weigh out pros and cons, and also to let them know you might want an option to remove them.

i would do my best to pick the surgeon whom i think would be able to deliver the best or closest result to what i'm seeking just to lower the chance of needing a revision. statistically speaking, most djs patients actually chose to leave them in, at the very least, it's mostly that case in asia.

A lot of doctors don't use them because it doesn't fix your bones together well... There's a high risk that your bones will shift so it's much better that you just have the titanium ones removed instead. That being said, I don't know if there's additional sagging risk if you're just getting them removed since you're not exactly peeling anything off or moving anything.
