Hi all - I can’t decide between the medium Andiamo or the large parachute for a roomier tote bag I can use for travel. The parachute seems a bit more user friendly since it doesn’t cinch like the Andiamo does, but I like that the Andiamo has a crossbody option.

What does everyone think? Anyone have both?

Oh gosh, neither one is ideal for travel. The Parachute can be worn on the shoulder and is an open tote so that works from a functional perspective. But while is substantial, it may not hold enough for travel. (I had the old parachute and used it for travel and it was stuffed and the shoulder straps weren’t particularly comfortable.)

As for the Andiamo, I think there’s a capacity issue and also the lack of a shoulder carry option— or at least one that’s comfortable.

But it’s that both bags are dressy that also deter me from making a strong recommendation for either.

So neither would be a choice for me as a travel bag. Of the two, I’m still stuck. If you need a business bag or something, a little dressier, then I go with the Andiamo so you have dual usage. if you want something that’s functional then the parachute.

What about a cabat or arco tote? Those have a nice ease for travel and I believe the strap is long enough to carry on the shoulder and you’re gonna have decent capacity.

Edited to add: both are gorgeous bags.

Thanks for the response! Both definitely fit what I need for travel so I’m not worried about that.

And Andiamo has a shoulder carry option! Just double up the straps. I just can’t decide between the two. I wish one were in calfskin because then I would get that for durability reasons

I was really underwhelmed by the new Parachute design when I tried it on… Plus I find the current color options boring. I much prefer my medium Andiamo. I mainly carry it by the top handle, but like how there’s a shoulder option when I need it. However, I don’t find the medium Andiamo all that roomy so I personally couldn’t use it for air travel. I love this bag though and use it constantly.

Thank you - super helpful feedback! I have wanted the medium andiamo for awhile so leaning towards that since I’ve wanted it for so long.

I would say go for it then! It’s a great bag and I’m so happy I have one. I honestly want another one, but don’t like buying duplicates so I may get a small in the future.

I love my medium Andiamo for travel! Only bummer is it doesn’t fit my laptop (I have a big one), so it isn’t my travel bag for work trips - but if I’m traveling for leisure, it’s def my go to. I find it very comfortable to shoulder carry, and I haven’t had any major wear and tear on mine yet. Haven’t had the chance to check out the new Parachute though!

Here's my thoughts on the Andiamo east-west. It's not the same as the original andiamo but the issues I have with it would be the same as the original andiamo.

If you haven't tried on any of these bags in-store, I highly recommend it. It can definitely change your perspective on a bag.

3) Andiamo East West - was kind of on my wishlist but its off (for now) after I tried it on in-store. This was somewhat of a disappointment because it is a beautiful bag and I was looking forward to potentially buying it. Here's a few reasons why it's off the wishlist:
- I never thought the single handle would bother me but it did. It leans slightly to one side and I confirmed with my SA that depending on where I put items and how much I put in, it can lean to one side. If it had 2 handles, both sides would be equally supported. It also felt weird with one handle. The weight felt off.
- The long strap is a bit stiff and quite long, and kind of takes up space if you were to put it inside the bag. It is doable, but my SA said most people carry the long strap with the top handle outside of the bag. I actually do this for my other bags, but for some reason, when I did it, it felt sloppy and unappealing, perhaps because of the length. (If I bought this bag, I would carry it top handle. not a fan of it crossbody or shoulder)
- The metal bow will never stay in the center and never stay in place. This is kind of a given based on the design. But again, this was something I never thought would bother me, but it did. ALSO, because it is a rope of leather that is looped between the two holes, it will actually sort of hang out and down. Therefore, it's not like the photo where the rope and metal bow are more flush to the bag and in a relatively straight line. It will hang and sag out a little. And this is far more noticeable in-person.
Long story short, I realized I like the bag a lot more when it has no strap and sits there perfectly like the photo:rolleyes: unrealistic, I know  . I do think the proportions of the east-west shape are nice though.

Just my thoughts/experience. Please let us know what you end up getting!

Edit: Add on, I honestly never thought of myself as a person who was particularly picky or fussy about bags. I don't baby them and treat them as they are. However, I guess the Andiamo East West really changed that up haha.

While I do think the parachute is potentially borderline boring, I do like the strap detail they put on it. Between the two I would go for the parachute mainly because I've been really loving shoulder bags in the past few years. I love how practical and relatively safe they are.

LOL, I’m a big fan of the Parachute and I find the Andiamo boring! I have several of the older ones and plan on getting the new Parachute soon if I can get past that silly knot. The knot seems even more prominent on the Andiamo so that one is definitely a no-go, plus I don’t like that little handle. The Parachute holds a lot but not a large laptop. I can say it’s a great bag for daily use but I tend to carry actual tote bags for travel and then use small crossbodies like Pillow or Disco when sightseeing.
