Hi ladies. Is the Medallion Tote worth buying. ? Is it a good investment piece ? Not that I am thinking of buying and then selling down the track but you never know if your circumstances change and you might have to sell. I want something that will hold it's value or perhaps even make a bit of profit. It is in beautiful condition , like new. I already have a GST and love it. Thanks ladies.

I bought mine from a reseller who source it from Japan, series 5 in superb condition about 2 years ago at about $1100+ (USD) and now the reselling prices has gone up quite significantly in most places I saw online. It's about $1800-2500 for a decent one for the very least if you were to get one. I'm not sure how the prices will go in near future but I do think it may go up. The prices for vintage classics actually have gone up quite a lot during these 2 years. The Diana lambskin bag is somewhat selling as high as mid-$3-5000 while I bought mine 2 years back at about $1800 that's from a Japan vintage luxury market.

I have always loved the Medallion Tote, it was one of the first Chanel bags my heart desired. I didn't buy it back when it was available in the store. Last year, I purchased a preloved one in excellent condition in the 6 series for 1200 USD. I love using it. However, I don't consider any of my handbags as investments. I buy what I love and know I will use instead of worrying about resell value. I've never made a profit on any of my bags I've resold.

Hi! It seems we like the same bags, as I follow the same threads, GST, Coco Handle, and now Medallion.
As with my other Chanels, once I like a style, I tend to buy multiples. I have four Medallions. The Medallion was my very first Chanel bag, the black with gold medallion. I then purchased three more. I love the Medallion, but I no longer use any of my Medallions mainly because the jumbo-size logo does not speak to me anymore.

Logos are in now, so the price of Medallions has increased. Plus, Bella Hadid was spotted last year with one, so I would think she influenced the recent price increase in Medallions. Prior though, when big logos were out, you could get Medallions for less than $1K. There is a separate thread on "is the Medallion dated" if you wish to investigate more.

Long term, of the three bags you asked about GST, CCH, and Medallion, I would say the Medallion will be the worst investment (I am only aware of these three bags you asked about as I follow those threads, you may have asked about other bags).

As others have said, I buy bags because I love them, not for investment value. I think for a Medallion, you really need to love that bag and that jumbo size logo. If you do, go for it. It's a great style and holds a ton of stuff. I still love this style, but as of now, I can't get past the big logo. Many people love it as big logos are trending for now. I may use one of my Medallions tomorrow and see how I feel.

By the way, the big thing to watch out for when buying a Medallion bag is the handle flop problem. Bags made in France seem to have the handle flop while most bags made in Italy do not, but some do. So in the photos, if the seller has the handles crossed over each other, the seller is hiding the fact the handles flop and hoping a new buyer will not know this is an issue. Just check/ask as those bags should be priced cheaper. Floppy handles may not bother you, but a Medallion's handles should stand tall.

Like this... see how the seller crossed the handles over each other? It's because the handles flop.

Good luck!

I loved medallion tote for a long time. I purchased a medallion tote last year. Now that I have the bag, I have never used it! I feel it’s a little dated looking.
Same here. I can't seem to shake that feeling for the Medallion now. I used to love the bag and used it all the time.
Do you feel it's dated because of the jumob CC logo? That is the main reason for me.
Or do you see something else? I'm just curious as honestly, I have been really trying to re-love this bag, but nope, I never reach for mine. Contrast that to the GST which is also discontinued, and I love my GSTs. It looks fresher to me.

I don’t mind the CC, I can’t put my finger on what is making it look dated. It’s either the shape of the bag or the tubular handles. I should have added a few extra hundreds and found a GST. I think overall GST has a classic shape for a chanel tote.

Good luck!
Thank you so much for replying. Yes we do love the same bag GST, CCH and also now the Medallion. I love the Vintage Jumbo single flaps as well. Just scored one in excellent condition for a bargain. I couldn't believe it.

I am not thinking of just as an investment as I buys bags that I really love only and that I will wear not put away just for the investment aspect, but if my circumstances were to change and I had to sell my collection I would at least like to get my money back or close to it not something that I would lose a few thousand on. Touch wood this won't ever happen but you never know what life brings. Hopefully this will never happen. I have only just re-discovered the Medallion after seeing someone selling one and it brought back memories of how much I loved it. Lucky you having 4 Medallions. Do get them out and start using them again. I used to be put off by the big CC's but I am again loving them so rocking my GST's.

Thank you so much for all your help and especially for the handle flop problem. I hadn't even thought of that. That is a sneaky way to disguise the problem. I would be so upset to get a bag and then find out if had this problem. You have provided me with great advice and information. It is very much appreciated.:flowers:

Thank you for your reply. You have been a great help. I could really kick myself because I bought an immaculate medium Diana for AUD $2500 about 18 months ago here in Australia and I was too scared to use it as I didn't want anything to happen to it as it was so beautiful so I sold it. I made a little bit but now they are selling for around AUD $6,000 upwards in excellent condition like mine. I could kick myself. I didn't buy for the investment value back then at all, never thought about it but if only I had kept it I would have more than doubled my money. vintage bags have gone crazy in their pricing.
Thank you again. :heart::flowers:

It is such a beautiful bag. I had forgotten all about it until I saw one for sale recently in a Facebook Luxe group and it brought back so many memories . I fell in love with it back then and couldn't afford it and seeing it again made me realise how much I did love it. I have never bought my bags as investments either, I buy what I love. I have just been thinking lately with everything happening in the world if my circumstances were to suddenly change and I had to sell I would at least get my money back. Hopefully this will never happen. My bags are my babies and I love them all.
Thank you so much for your reply. It is much appreciated .:flowers:
