A special request to all who post about new bags and especially those who
post YouTube videos..... please measure the bags and share the info with us.
Often the measurements are either not listed on the Dooney sites or they are
incorrectly listed.

We have all gotten a bag that is either much smaller than we wanted or
larger. And then there is the return hassle. And some of the core styles are
made in multiple leathers and the sizes differ, or the styles have been reintroduced
with different (often smaller) dimensions, so it's really hard to know what we are
getting. And then, there is the confusion introduced when some styles are measured
across the top vs. across the length of the base.

Every measurement counts...length across the base, depth (width) of the base,
height all determine how much space a bag will have. Base depth (width) is often
overlooked and often wrong on the sites. It makes a big difference in the capacity of a bag.

Handle drop and strap drop
can be important to many. And, many want to know if a strap can be removed,
without cutting it. (Yes, you would think this would be obvious, but sometime the
pegs prevent the strap from slipping thru a small D ring or the pegs prevent the strap from
being fully opened).

Long time collectors have some experience with Dooney and have learned, often the
hard way, that certain collections (like Alto) are measured differently or that the interior space
is often smaller than the exterior measurements due to the structure and design of
those collections. And we try to point that out when someone asks about an Alto bag.

But there are measurement challenges with other collections, and even the most experienced
collectors will benefit from more details and getting measurements from someone who has the
bag in hand. Everyone had different handbag preferences (and needs) and calling a handbag
roomy or large is relative, measurements are much more helpful. And bags that look alike are
often not the same size unless they are from the same collection in the same season. Different leather,
different years, mean we can't assume things won't have changed.

Thanks to all.

You are so right. We need to help each other out because buying and being disappointed due to limited info from Dooney isn't the best customer experience.

Returning always went smoothly until this last return. I have my refund but what happened to the return is a mystery.

This may be controversial, but I wish Dooney would cut down a bit on their product line and put more effort into providing customers with clear information about the leathers, accurate dimensions and clear photos. Selling a handbag without accurate measurements is crazy. I thought returns were costly for companies.

The last bag I purchased is going to stay with me based on durability and cost, but the strap wasn't shown and I don't really like it. The strap was hidden behind the bag and listed as adjustable. The only thing is, on the Piper you are stuck with the too long strap, or if you want it shorter (as I need), you have the middle part. I don't like the thick "padded" middle section. The strap I received has a middle section that is highly pebbled and looks cheap. The two ends are thinner and smooth, but the buckles can't be attached. I want to see if a shoe repair place can cut a buckle off and punch a few holes to make it look better. Oh well, I don't trust returning to Milford, CT USPS, for fear the return won't get back to D&B.

Since I didn't have that bag, I didn't even think about whether the strap was
some 'special' design. That might work for some, but clearly not for everyone.
And if you had the info, and a clear picture of the bag and strap, you might have chosen not
to order it. I hope you can work out a solution with the shoe repair guy. Punching holes
is easy. Hope the rest of the 'reconfig' works out so you can really enjoy the bag.

Dooney does do some 'uinusual' strap configs.... 3 part straps where the center can be
removed, but the end pieces can't be. Or 3 part straps where every second is removeable.
Straps with buckles to attach the strap thru the D rings and straps with dog clips.
And some non removeable straps even tho they look like they should be removeable.

The truth is, I hate the strap the more I look at it. It's too busy for me. If D&B made it with a basic strap it would be a winner. This strap has not grown on me. I removed the plastic because I thought it was a keeper and I try to return in pristine condition. I think I'll look to see if anyone on eBay is selling extra straps in black that might work. My only black bags are Alto.

Leason learned, if the pics aren't clear, I will not buy.
