Travel May or September in Italy?

Hi
which month would you prefer and why?

We will be visiting rome, Florence, Naples, Amalfi coast and Cinque Terre.

They're both good months to visit as the weather is fine. The only difference would be that in May there's more light later in the evening.
Late May or early-mid September are both equally good

If you plan on swimming, september is nicer as the Mediterranee water is just perfect.
Otherwise, both months are great.

We went in mid-May this year and it was great! The weather wasn't too warm and the airfare was lower because it's technically off season.

we went twice in the fall..once in September and once in October.. September was beautiful.. October is still nice but it does start to get a bit chilly
