Apologies in advance if this has asked before, but here goes...

I am looking to purchase my first YSL bag (Loulou) and cannot for the life of me tell the difference between the Matelasse "Y" Leather vs the Y-Quilted Leather. I have looked at various colours to spot the difference but I could not.

The suede Loulou is actually my first choice but I'm not good with suede :(. Can anyone help me narrow my choice?

Thanks!!

Matelasse is raised quilting so the bags you are seeing are all the same and the only difference is how the different stores/websites decided to describe. I agree that suede is too hard to maintain. I have mine in black leather with silver hardware which gives a little edge to a classic bag. Let us know whichever one you decide to get and enjoy!

Thanks for the explanation! What really confused me was that YSL's website listed both Matelasse and Y-Quilted leather in the Loulou line.

The small Loulou in black leather with silver hardware is definitely on my radar :) . I've always skipped bags with silver hardware in favour of gold but I do see now how much more versatile silver is!

Will definitely share!!

I just looked at the YSL website and I see that they have both quilted Y and matelasse descriptions. Very strange but I‘m pretty confident that they are the same. The silver hardware is lightly oxidized so it’s not crazy bright.

Hi, just wanted to share my observations lately on the toy loulou. YSL had changed the centre of the toy lou lou to just a divider. I'm not sure when it started exactly, but the older versions of the bags I've seen on youtube purchased before 2020 had a divider with a centre pocket, while the newer versions in 2020 was just a divider with no pocket. There is a difference in the feel of the leather too but this is just my opinion. The first time I ordered directly from ysl website came one manufactured in 2019, it was buttery smooth and the divider came with the centre pocket but pity it came defect as it looked like it had been used before and the strap was horribly damaged. I later ordered another one from farfetch and this time it came with a centre divider with no pocket, and it was made in 2020, and I have to say what a difference in the leather! The leather, although smooth, doesn't have that soft buttery feel to it compared to the older version(with centre pocket). Which is also the reason why I am no longer getting the toy lou lou but that is just my preference. Hope this helps!

I can't believe they even sent you an item with a damaged strap!!! Thanks for your input. I had actually considered the toy loulou but I feel like I have too many cross body bags. I do like the proportion of the small Loulou as a shoulder bag more. That said, I'm sorry to hear it did not work for you. I just cannot understand why customers are sent obviously sub par products when they cost so much money.
