Hey guys, here’s a ref thread that’s long overdue. In fall 2020 I promised someone (sorry I don’t remember who) that I’d compare the thickness, warmth and durability of my LV scarves to one other, as well as to other brands like Burberry, for anyone who’s looking to buy one. I’m going to compile my LV textiles and share pics and comments soon.

I’d love it if our many scarf and shawl fans could share their experiences and comparisons too! I know there are some stunning textile collections out there

Have owned four LV scarves in total -- the Cardiff woollen scarf, which I've since sold, Lezard stole, classic Monogram shawl and cashmere-wool mix Monogram Gradient scarf. I have found all of them to be of excellent quality and I honestly haven't experienced any issues with pulling etc, though it's something I've heard lots of other people complain of. I would say probably my favourite is my shawl, I have it in anthracite and just love it. I've enjoyed using it for several years and I'm sure I will enjoy it for many more.

Thank you for sharing your experience @boyoverboard  I’m glad you still enjoy your shawl and scarves like when you first got them! Would love to see your modeling pics too… They must look great on you!

My skin is very sensitive, kinda allergic to wool, but I love warm shawls/stoles and scarves. I don’t like bright colours, large prints or colourful busy patterns in my stoles. I’m fine with small prints in subdued colours, not contrasty or logo-y much. I love jacquard fabric. So, given that, here’s my user experience, excluding the limited/seasonal editions which won’t say anything of the permanent collections’ usability.
If we talk jacquard, then the classic wool&silk LV Logomania shawls/stoles are the softest, silkiest and most pleasant to the touch - these do not irritate my skin at all, but the price for the softness is that the fabric is prone to snags (usually salvageable) & pilling. LV Monogram Shine and others with metallic fibers seem unpleasant to the touch, so I don’t own any. The 1854 jacquard is so textured that it doesn’t feel soft, but it is thicker and sturdy and drapes well (and I love the ‘70s inspired pattern in black&white). The thick winter Logomania woolen scarves (the proper narrow kind) are very soft, fluffy and warm and absolutely do not irritate my neck, and look heavy knit but are very lightweight due to the long fluffy ”loops“ - mind, they aren’t actually knit, they are woven, so naturally the yarn fibers can pull relatively easily; these are absolutely great for someone basically allergic to wool but in need of a warm fluffy knit (knit-looking in this case) woolen winter scarf.
Dior jacquard stoles in wool&silk are thicker and sturdier than LV Logomania and thus also drape better, but are also noticeably less soft and less silky. Like, if I drag these when taking off it feels really irritating to my neck (unlike LV), and if the jacket collar is tight the stole somewhat irritates the back of my neck. Last year Dior redid my favourite Cannage patterned stoles in another fabric with metallic fiber which was very scratchy to the touch (the wool/silk ratio was different I think than it was in mine). This fall they added the Cannage in yet another wool&silk fabric without the metallic fiber (with the cannage pattern going all over incl. the hems), but I didn’t need any of the colours they released, so I didn’t buy and thus can’t comment on the new edition.
Gucci scarves in the classic small GG jacquard print (I think Gucci have lately shifted to a giant GG print, regrettably) are quite sturdy but aren’t the softest, or at least feel so given that they are all wool (or almost all wool), and generally scarves are worn tighter around the neck compared to stoles. Gucci cotton jacquard scarf I own only one, it is dreamy soft and wears very well (bought it last spring for its unique colourway, have worn it a lot since) but I’m not sure how permanent this particular fabric is in their range, so not sure if my experience will transfer to other seasons. I like it that they are basically double-sided and thus offer more versatility colour-wise while keeping a rather reserved look.
Silk: I don’t like the silk in LV and Gucci; Dior’s silk is excellent in 90x90 carré and up but non in the smaller 70x70 (feels too thin; perhaps it differs by year?).
Etro scarves and stoles are soft and quite thin. I would say they are delicate but they are very unique for their print, so durability is not much of a factor in my purchasing decision. Also, their print and overall ethnic/boho style disguise the mild pilling.
I don’t feel the need to include Hermes in here (the quality is excellent, of course, like it should be for the price).

This is very helpful as I’ve been considering a LV petite scarf/shawl lately (I’m petite/short so I want something that won’t be bulky) but wool really bothers me. Have you had any experience with LV cotton ones?

LV Petite is the woolen scarf in damier pattern from the menswear range, right? It feels soft to me. It is a smooth knit fabric, not textured jacquard. It wears well but it also depends on the material of the coat/jacket/collar: sleek fabric like nylon or smooth leather don’t rub on the scarf, so don’t produce pilling. But I guess that a woolen jacket, esp in the more rigid wool, might.
Btw, a thicker moisturizer on the neck (like Lipikar Baume by LRP or Bioderma sth Intensive) make a huge difference in my skin’s reaction to wool. The winters get cold here, I wouldn’t want to not be able to wear it. Cashmere is a great option (cashmere is goat not sheep, if you are truly and properly allergic to sheep wool) but it is never done in such fun styles and textures as wool/wool blends!
I don’t own any LV cotton scarves or stoles, so unfortunately can’t help here.

A few of my luxury scarves. I have a mix of LV, Gucci, and Burberry. For me personally, the Gucci scarves are my favorite, and Burberry is a close 2nd. I enjoy the LV as well, but I don’t gravitate towards them as much. For winter I love the weight and size of the Gucci monogram 100% wool scarves. They’re amazing and extremely versatile. My 1 “does it all” scarf would be my Burberry lightweight gauze scarf. The size and wool/silk combo makes it one of those scarves that you can literally just throw on, and it always falls into place and looks amazing. None of my other scarves do that. I don’t use my 100% silk scarves much. I like my LV mono denim shawl, but it’s probably the most fussy compared to my Gucci and Burberry ones.

What a gorgeous scarf collection! Thanks for sharing your experience with them all, M :)

yes, a scarf and shawl analysis thread. i looked at "logomania", "simply LV"and other LV woollen scarves for winter in UK and decided they were too much in terms of branding - still lovely and I enjoy seeing on others but not for me.

I much prefer Gucci for A/W scarves, so much colour/choice and a bit better price: I have a 2019 dark grey jacquard and the pink metallic from 2021. I also have a 90 x90 100% cotton kids square ivory scarf which is perfect for warmer days with a vest top to add a bit of detail and coverage on chest from the sun.

I love my LV wool/silk shawl for all year round but haven't really tested it out much. I have to say it drapes so well. Its a great size for wrapping around/adding some warmth without bulk and styling! It's very subtle in terms of branding logos but very luxurious. I do think you need to be careful as it's a delicate fabric/weave but i love it and have navy/deep lilac/bold orange or pink on my list if any of the last two come up in the summer season to buy.

My favourite all-rounder is the LV mongram and despite it being delicate, I would definitely buy again.

I also have my eye on the exact scarf you have MOXISOX, the lightweight Burberry wool/silk scarf. I can see that being an excellent all-rounder in my wardrobe and lifestyle

Thank you for the advice and recommendations. I’ve had my eye on this petite shawl for awhile since it’s a bit smaller than the regular one,0961F607-2C1D-48CB-B107-FE4947D44D82.jpegbut I generally prefer cotton so I might wait to see what comes out this spring.

I think you’ll love it for an all year scarf. It’s so versatile, and if I could only have 1 scarf, it’d be that one.
