I had the same dilemma. Ended up getting the madelaine...not regretted it since. I tend to carry a lot of stuff in my purse...so a shoulder bag works for me. Great for both work and for shopping. And knowing that the alma's price went up a lot over the years, if i didn't get it then, why get it now??
But at the end of the day it's your own preference.

I love both, but personally I have and love the Madeleine GM, I have one in black and it's very sleek and classy in my opinion. It's my "professional" bag. If you're thinking of a fun color though I might go for the alma.

I prefer the Alma over Madeleine GM.
Do you have a strong preference for handheld vs. shoulder bag?
Another option might be either Passy (handheld) or Passy GM (shoulder bag).
I'd suggest getting the bag you really want, the one that makes your heart skip a beat (even if it takes a little more time to save for it) vs. getting the one you settle for because it's less expensive. Good luck with your decision.
