Luxury things / the in crowd?

Personally I don't purchase any item to be part of the "in crowd" for the sake of having
a luxury item to be recognized. Luxury items are many that can't be seen that you
the wearer know you have.
or follow any influencer because it seems like we are living in a world of show & tell.
I know my style & what looks best on me. Sometimes the trends are interesting & can
be adapted in one's wardrobe but most of the time I just stick to what I like luxury or not

Funny in 2023 to even imagine an in crowd. What could that possibly mean? Fashion is all over the place, there's no one or two or six particular looks to be current.

I pay attention to things that meet my aesthetic, but I don't always spring for them when they're popular. Sometimes I'll dive in years after the wave.

Do you buy “in” luxury things even though you personally don’t like them to be part of the “in crowd”?

Interesting question. I typically haven't tended to gravitate to very popular, luxury items. Often they've not suited me, aesthetically. And recently, my desire for things I like that I consider falling into that category, has all but vanished. Overexposure of certain items, no matter how lovely, just makes me want them less for various reasons.

I don't live in an In-Crowd community, but I was raised in one so I do know to what you are referring. And my answer is a hard No. Looking like everyone else doesn't appeal to me, especially where jewelry is concerned. I would rather have a one of a kind estate sale piece, or a unique handmade item, than a bracelet or necklace from a popular high end jeweler. I am also not a fan of fashion house costume jewelry as it's often not the best quality, and I prefer not to be a walking billboard.

Same with bags. I often find myself drawn to pieces / brands that might not be for everyone. To those who do feel pressure to own certain bags, jewelry, cars etc, it can take some time to define ones own style, and it's definitely worth exploring and defining. However, you'll never get there if you only follow the crowd.

No. Nor do I dress particularly trendy or drive a $$$ car or live in a $$$ house. I can only live my life and other people can only live theirs.

People who actually like you will like you whether or not your shoes are cool. If they don’t, you weren’t part of the “group” to begin with.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve dedicated less and less brain space to these things.

I now realize I misunderstood your question. My answer is, no, absolutely not.

No. Because then I would just be like everyone else. I want to be "me". A friend put it well when he said those sorts of people "look uniquely the same"!!

Also I never think of expensive possessions as "luxury" - I just see them as "stuff I don't need but I bought it anyway because I liked it and it makes me happy".
