Hi Ladies,

Before purchasing my galliera I read several posts trying to determine if applying any sort of leather protector would be beneficial. I never treated my mono speedy with anything but I was really nervous about the galliera. I decided to go with the LMB LV kit to treat the vachetta after PMing a member and asking a couple questions. The kit comes with a cleanser and vachetta protector which the owner says is the same as For Handles Only (FHO). I didn't use the cleanser since the bag is brand new but will use it to clean all my LV's as required.

Now for the FHO or vachetta protector. I tested a small area on the back of the handle to see if it would work. It did darken the vachetta initially but dried perfectly. I applied a thin coat of FHO over all the vachetta, used a hairdryer on med heat for a few mins to start the drying process and then let it dry for a few hours. Once completely dry, I applied another coat and repeated the hairdryer, etc. Once dry I buffed the vachetta with the little white cloth that came with the kit.

The bag is perfect and there are no signs that I applied anything to it. I included a before and after picture because I never saw any pictures in the threads I researched and I thought it would be good to actually show that there were no changes to the bag.

I also used scotchguard for the lining. It's so light and I wanted a little extra protection against anything that could go wrong. I bought the scotchguard for fabrics. Tested a small area inside the snap pocket first to see if it would work. Everything turned out fine so I lightly sprayed the entire inside and let it dry overnight. I sprayed another light coat the next morning and the lining is perfect. No changes to the color or feel of the lining. These pictures are harder to see but there was absolutely no change to the lining after spraying two coats.

I used to use the scotch guard on my toki's and it worked like a charm! It repelled dirt like crazy. I was very very nervous to do it but it worked! I thought those were expensive, but now, compared to LV's, a drop in the bucket! I agree with drspock7, you are very very brave to try! Glad it worked out for you, that by the way is my HG bag that you have. enjoy her! :woohoo:

I am so glad I found this! I just purchased the LV kit and am worried about using it. I've never protected any other bag, but I just got a new Speedy before the price increase and I want to protect this one to see how everything turns out. I've never had a problem with ugly patina (i.e. gross black marks) but I still am a freak about bad weather and using vachetta, so I wanted to try something new. With using just the protector, have you used your bag in any rain or bad weather? I just wonder about if the vachetta will really be protected...

Yay!!! You got it! Would you believe that I FINALLY treated my new Speedy B yesterday (I bought it a month ago!) so now it can get out and see the light of day. LOL. I too received the new LV kit with the Vachetta Protection - aka For Handles Only - in fact, mine still had the FHO sticker on it which kind of confused me. But Barbara, the owner explained that this is the same protect. Good for both water and oil - from hands - issues. Everything worked out beautifully. I can't tell either that I put anything on at all. So easy to apply and it dried very quickly and evenly.

I'm so glad you had such good results too! It is nice to feel like your investment is more protected, isn't it?

With regard to water, I still don't purposefully go out in the rain to "test it out". I just use it as kind of "insurance" if I get caught out with my bag and it starts to rain. Even with this product, it is wise to re-treat after a few months to be sure the vachetta stays protected.

Okay, thanks for the quick reply! I am hopeful that I won't be so paranoid about weather with my protected bag hehe

Thank you so much for your help in all this! Yes I feel so much more relaxed knowing she's protected :smile1: It was nice to bounce it off you before taking the plunge. I was so nervous but knew I wouldn't feel comfortable unless I did something to protect it. LMB is awesome and the bag is still looking great even after getting caught in the rain yesterday. So glad I did it so now I can just enjoy the bag. Thanks again.

That's funny about your speedy B. I thought for sure you had done it right away.

 totally agree with kathrynch. I still try to avoid rain but got caught in a shower yesterday. I covered the bag with my jacket but got a couple tiny water spots on it. I didn't mess with it and an hour or so later it dried and I can't tell they were there. Don't know if that would be the case if it got completely soaked though. The product does say to treat regularly though. I think monthly or every other month. I'm not sure but I know it's not intended to be a one time thing.

After getting some advice from a lady on here who has a great LV collection,I got the apple guarde spray for my artsy handle.
Just got it and sprayed today,so I don't know how it works .but the other TPF member highly recommended it.
