Back in August I stopped by Cartier in Hawaii to purchase another love bracelet also to drop off my current love bracelet to clean. My SA took the bracelet to the back to clean and came back after 10 mins. She showed me the bracelet, at the time I noticed something odd but wasn’t paid much attention because I was focusing on purchasing another bracelet.
I came home from the trip and didn’t wear my old love bracelet until now I took it out and I noticed there are so many tiny scratches around the bracelet, I don’t know how to explain it. I do have some. Kemal wear and tear scratched with not with a lot of tiny dot of scratches with whole bracelet. My guess is the SA probably cleaned it with harsh cleaning cloth or something. Can anyone tell me how to remove those scratches? Thank you

Thats really sad to hear that. Even I have also encountered this situation before. I have tried many DIYs but I would suggest you to go to cartier only. Cartier offers professional cleaning and polishing services for their jewelry. While it may come with a fee, this is the safest and most effective way to remove scratches and maintain the bracelet's original luster. It's also recommended to have your Cartier bracelet inspected and serviced by Cartier experts to ensure it's in the best condition.

Thanks for your advice, but I’m so afraid to have Cartier to clean my bracelet again. The SA from Cartier who originally scratched my bracelet

I don't see how they would scratch it during cleaning it. Do you think that you are looking at the bottom of the bracelet where it gets the most scratches that you didn't notice before taking it off to be cleaned?

No, I looked at my bracelet every day so I know the scratches. There are normal wear and tear scratches but not on the whole surface of the bracelet. Now I noticed all the surface of the bracelet has tiny small scratches

18K gold is very soft and scratches easily even with a soft polishing cloth (causing hairline scratches) so that is what might have happened. These are inevitable.

Unless you have Cartier actually polish it, it will have and continue to collect light scratches. Gold is so soft that even the sleeves/cuffs of a cotton shirt will start to leave tiny scratches or what people sometimes call "Hairline scratches." I got my first Love bracelet 15 years ago, and in my experience unless you never wear them they all get scratches. I don't know how old your "Old" Love bracelet is, but personally, I'd say wear it and enjoy your bracelet for 10 years, and then get have them do a "Light polish" not a cleaning. That should make it look basically like new again. You don't want to do that very often, that's why I suggest waiting at least 10 years between polishings, because each time you do that, you strip away a tiny amount of gold to reveal a clean unscratched layer. If you do this too frequently, you lose some of the depth of the screw motif and the edges of your bracelet can become rounded. Wishing you lots of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for your advice, my love bracelet is 2 1/2 years old, I don’t want to do any polish, I’m just frustrated that the SA should make the bracelet look less scratches or newer when I brought in for cleaning instead she make it look worse. I don’t mind the the bracelet got scratches but I want those scratches make by me. Anyway, I still love my bracelet and probably will do what you said, do the light polish when it reach 10 years 😊

I do believe you caused those scratches!

With any precious gold metal it will be prone to scratches, even tiny minute hairline scratches! Once the gold is polished with a fine non-scratching cloth it will buff out shiny and show the scratches that were hidden. Its like washing your car and after drying it you see swirl marks in certain angles of the light.

Cartier would not intentionally use an abrasive cloth to polish. They do not want to be reliable for any damages.

Pictures of before and after would do this thread justice.

I am surprised you've gone years without getting scratches! I noticed my first few scratches within a week - LOL. Don't worry, the other posts give great advice. Personally, I have learned to love the bracelets imperfections!
While I don’t think that a 10 minute polish would cause scratches, perhaps the act of polishing with the cloth made existing scratches more obvious. SInce this bothers OP, no matter what the case, I would recommend getting the bracelet professionally polished to bring it closer to factory shine. JMO

ETA: just realized @CartierLVer already posted about the shining bringing out the scratches a few posts above. :flowers:

I highly do NOT recommend professional polish as it thins your gold and smooths the edges. In time it will get scratched up. No sense wasting time and money to do that. I just buy a simple polish cloth from amazon and it does wonders.
