On that fateful day, Nicolas Ghesquière will show his cruise collection for Louis Vuitton right outside the Prince's Palace in Monaco. Princess Charlene of Monaco will be present, and with the Cannes Film Festival taking place nearby, we can expect plenty of Hollywood types to join as well.

LOUIS VUITTON TO SHOW FIRST EVER CRUISE RUNWAY SHOW IN MONACO
It’s a day of firsts at Louis Vuitton. The luxury fashion house has just announced that it will show its first ever runway show for its cruise collection in Monaco next week.

Not only is this the first time that Louis Vuitton will be presenting its cruise collection in such a high profile manner, it is also the first cruise collection for the brand’s new artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière. And it will be the first time in history that a fashion show will be presented at the Palais de Monaco, the official residence of the Price of Monaco since 1297.
The show will be taking place under the patronage and in the presence of the royal fashion plate HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco. Who said about the event, “I am particularly pleased to welcome to Monaco, Place du Palais, the Louis Vuitton cruise runway show and discover the creations of Nicolas Ghesquière”.

The decision to present this inaugural fashion event in Monaco seems a fitting choice for a brand known for its historic love of travel. Monaco is a Principality that is almost synonymous with luxury travel. After all, didn’t Grace Kelly arrive for her fairytale wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco via the boat the S.S. Constitution into the Monte Carlo harbor?

“This first cruise collection by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton shows the historical relationship between our house and the Principality of Monaco,” said Michael Burke, the president of Louis Vuitton, in a press statement.

It’s a feeling shared by Princess Charlene who added, “Elegance, beauty and refinement, are values shared by the Principality and the prestigious house.”

Any lingering questions about the growing importance of cruise collections have now been put to rest with the arrival of Louis Vuitton into the fray. It looks as if the cruise fashion show floodgates have now truly been thrown wide open. With luxury brands taking these shows to exotic locations each year they have become key occasions for brands to make luxury clients around the globe feel special and appreciated by their favorite high end fashion brands.

The Louis Vuitton cruise fashion show will broadcast live on May 17 at 19h on louisvuitton.com.
