Louis Vuitton Louise defect (LV metal logo)? Tarnish? Rust? Stain?

Hi folks,

I have a few LV Louise bags, and one of them has developed this... stain? rust? tarnish? on the LV logo. I have kept this one in a dust bag in my closet for a few months. I took it out today to bring it with my on a trip and to my horror, I see the picture below! How could that have happened? The leather itself is in phenomenal condition and the LV logo had normal wear and tear scratches. Could oxygen and moisture have entered under the scratches to do this?

What are my options? This was bought a few years ago.

It looks like the corrosion is a result from humidity/moisture getting into the scratches and then oxidizing, but take the bag to LV and they'll repair it easily enough, especially since that particular piece of hardware is still manufactured. Your SA will be able to give you an accurate quote if LV decides to charge you, but they may do it as a courtesy...never hurts to politely ask.

Have you tried polishing the hardware? Sometimes it's all you need to do.

Thanks! If they do not do it as a courtesy, what is the ballpark am I expecting for this? It's a relatively simple procedure, but I'm sure LV is going to up the price just because they can.

I haven't a clue. The only way that you're going to get an accurate response is if you were to get a direct quote from LV themselves, but as fabuleux suggested, try polishing the hardware first and see if that helps. Brasso might work.

I don't want to ghost people on this! I ended up going to the LV store in Boston and told them what happened - we kept it in great condition, but the metal logo is not up to par with what LV is selling. They said they needed to ship it to their specialists to inspect it and let me know what the outcome would be.

A few weeks later, I received a call that they will be replacing it free of charge. Although this was about 2 years ago now, it still looks good!
