HI all!

I didn't know that this forum is not just for Purses but a lot of other luxury brand topics!!
So I'm renewing my wardrobe with better items, it'd be the first time in my stage of life.

I'm thinking of getting some winter and summer items like Cashmere jacket from Cucinelli , 1 or 2 polos and shirts from Loro, Cucinelli and Hermes.
As well as some nice Vicuna scarves from Loro.

1. Would you advise me to buy direct from the brands or try to get them from say a secondary reseller (if they even exist?)
Their prices are ultra high, so it'd be nice to be able to save some $$

2. Are their quality fair for their price? Specially with Hermes. ?

Thank you in advance.

Loro piana and brunello go on 40% sale at the respective boutiques and possibly more at department stores.
I’ve gotten amazing finds on prior year jpg for Hermes RTW at H sample sale. There are occasionally resale deals,
But it’s hard to ascertain condition, authenticity and sizing

Re brunello, the coats tend to go on sale. Re pants, you need to try fit. For example, their pants really fit my body type. I think their fancy opera sweaters and monili are overpriced. Re Hermes, I personally think their cashmere coats tend to pill, but I like their leather and silk RTW. I find H silk overpriced but relatively sturdy. Loro piana has been a pleasant surprise in terms of fit, quality, and style, but more for DH than me. Chanel RTW is apparently commonly faked, and I’m not sure about the other brands. I wear some men’s items (I am a woman but I can wear size 38 in some men’s slim fit pants and women’s cargos Hermes). The men’s items from these designers are usually far better priced, so if you can look there (sweaters, knits, jackets etc) it’s a substantial difference.

ETA: I buy primarily from the boutique, and the advantage is that the SA will let you know when and if something is likely to go on sale.

I'm guessing the sale is when the season for that collection is ending?

1. For example: Brunelo: I want a winter trenchcoat (the white one:Wool,Cashmere, silk)
that's 9k, buy it like in March when spring starts?

2. Piana: I'm interested in their cashmere scarves at $657 ea

3. Hermes, Piana and Brunelo: I'm thinking of getting a nice polo and shirt from each one of them for this summer.
Hermes, mainly just so I can buy my lady a Birkin. The SA said "just spend a little first to be a customer and I'll get you one".

4. but if their fall / winter coll polo & shirts goes to 40% at the Boutique in Spring/summer, it makes sense to just buy those for later then I buy the spring/summer coll in winter time.

I'm not in a hurry, just want to start upgrading my wardrobe little by little.

Pants...... Costco XD

BC is often on sale at 70% off and even higher… they have been producing far too much inventory lately and their prices have clearly hurt their ability to move merchandise leading to greater sales from retailers. You have to be careful to read all product descriptions because they sometimes cheap out with linings or even fabrics…

Loro Piana generally has some of the best fabrics out there and sales are often few and far between.

H is H so people try to dump their RTW purchases that they purchase to increase their pre-spend for bags which leads to a flood of new with tags items all over the internet at deep discounts.

The last couple of years have been pretty fantastic for picking up high end garments at discount due to many companies having over supplied the market and cost of living affecting many potential customers…

My tip would be not be to rush and only buy what you really love because for the time being it’s clearly a RTW buyers market.

However the above tips won’t work for every size since certain sizes aren’t heavily stocked which leads to them selling out quickly in season… Unfortunately some people almost need to pay full retail like my parents whose sizes are at the extremities of the size ranges.

PS: Vicuña is very expensive but takes a very long time for retailers to move the inventory which leads to even classic items being discounted. (For example Loro Piana outlets or retailer end of season sales) - Johnstons of Elgin is another good source of vicuña (they also produce the wool/cashmere knitwear / scarves for nearly all the high end brands including H and Chanel)

1. is the 70% off BC from their boutiques?

2. Hermes: Where can I find these RTW that people dump?

3. I'm about an M or L, so I think it's pretty normal for USA market.

4. I don't think BC or Loro has an outlet store here, just their boutiques.

I'm in the midwest and in a state that doesn't really have too many high end stores like NYC or CA.
So these boutiques are about 4-6 hours from downtown and they are smaller in size.

Please keep teaching me how to shop these higher end brands, I won't rush.
Just wanna be able to save hard earned money and not overspend.

Not necessarily their flagship stores but rather their authorized retailers.

For example:

Online market places (or if you shop H a lot their private sales have decent selection at pretty good discount as @880 said)

Might not be too hard then (usually the XXS and XS go pretty quick)

Woodbury Common in California

I advise people who do not love boutique merchandise to shop resale for a bag. Resale prices are coming down. For example, I saw three swift leather JPG Kelly pouchettes at Paradise vintage in Tokyo for 14K USD which I’ve been told is close to retail price. Even if a resale bag is 1.5 or 2X the cost of retail, it might be a more sure thing than rolling the dice at a boutique. I bought some Kelly and Birkin resale bags during Covid when prices dropped, and there are some deals to be found.

I would spend a lot of time in the Hermes subforum shopping sections before spending randomly at a boutique.

I spend a lot more on structured basics: a pair of charcoal gray pants; a navy blazer; a navy sweater; a coat, than on fancy items. But, you don’t necessarily need Brunello or LP to upgrade. You do need to at least go to a store and try some stuff on to see if these brands are the right style and fit for you. Men’s clothing tends to be a little more standard in sizing than women’s. Brunello works best with men of average height and is very flattering on a slightly chunky build bc Brunello Cuchinelli himself is that build. LP these days, seems to be cut a bit slimmer for men. For coats and outerwear, LP does have sample sales, and there are other brands that use LP storm system, LPs outerwear innovation that basically renders cashmere weather resistant. I have a feeling that Resellers might have quite a bit of LP outerwear, but you need to try it on to even see if jt
Works for you. Plenty of men’s brands that aren’t so of the moment have high quality merchandise from Paul Stuart to Zegna or Brioni. In this way, I think men have a lot more options than women.

Re sweaters and knitwear, if I were building a capsule wardrobe today, I might prefer to focus on merino wool or a wool- silk blend (less expensive and hardier) than pay for cashmere. A brand I used to buy quite a bit was John Smedley

1. Good to know about Brunello. I'm 5'9 but very athletic with a T-shirt build. I ddn't know that Brunello is fat... so I'd have to tailor the waist area.

2. I'm thinking of just spending a few hundred at my local Hermes to ger access to the Birkin.

Sizes are a bit weird for men at BC. Like I’m a solid medium in pretty much every brand (48 euro or sometimes 46 if it is oversized)… meanwhile I’m a 44 at BC and I tried on an XS leather jacket which somehow fit perfectly… crazy

Always best to try some things on in store physically to get a feel for sizing…

I found BC and LP in Woodberry outlet in NY too.

So since they carry inventory from 1 year ago, how do I look for that year's catalog?
