Hi everyone! I’m looking for a solid, not plated 14k or 18k gold simple stud that I can wear comfortably 24 hours a day including sleep. Open to a flat back (is that what they’re called?) earring back.

Any jewelers or website are highly welcome! Open to any price point as well. Thanks in advance! (And yes, I will take it out to clean it regularly!!!)

I love solid gold ball stud earrings with a screw back from Etsy. There are many shops there that sell them. (just make sure you confirm with the seller that they are solid gold, sometimes descriptions are not clear or misleading)
They are a bit of a pain to screw on (because they are small), but once they are in, they stay in forever!

My cartilage ones are solid 14k, 2mm, very small, and have worked well for years.
I do recommend 14K over 18K. Since 18K is softer, it may have a tendency to bend over time, especially when you are sleeping.

I also have a screw in solid 14k flat back diamond stud, 2mm for one of my 2nd lobe piercings. I got that from my piercer, but it has also been very comfortable.

I generally don't like to take out my cartilage piercings. I clean them regularly with a q-tip and do a sort of "deep cleaning" once a week with an exfoliating towel in the shower (gentle rubbing though) for my whole ear. I have not had any build up around my piercings.

I had a similar hunt last year after experiencing infection after infection. Also sleeping in studs was hard because the posts kept jabbing me.

After quite a bit of searching, I ended up going with two of these:


Solid 18k. Screw on so I don't have to worry about losing the backs. Rounded so I can sleep in them comfortably. I haven't taken them off for the entire year since I put them on (I do use qtips for cleaning) 0 infections of any sort. My kids think I'm wearing Mario coins on my ears.

If you're looking for something larger, they also make these and sell them as a pair:


They were my first Cartier purchase ever and so far these have been by far the best gold stud earrings I've had.

My wife has worn these Cartier screws for years at a time with no problems.

Does it have to be designer earrings? I wear 22k solid gold round ball studs in a textured finish for everyday, purchased from a Chinese goldsmith shop. They look like this, are totally comfy to wear and, at the brick and mortar, the ball studs came in different sizes.

I second the Bvla recommendation or anything from anatometal/neometals! Also aurate has affordable gold earrings that are comfortable aside from the fact that I can’t wear gold for more than a day without irritation lol
