How are we feeling about Gucci's new (very large) DIY totes?

The idea is that you choose your initial(s) for the front (and back) choosing from colours and skins (the colours must be the same both sides).

Large is W41cm x H43cm x D5.5cm

Maxi is a whopping W52cm x H51cm x D5.5cm

There are also DIY ace sneakers/trainers too if you fancy.

The bags are a total no for me. It looks awkward to me. I don’t like huge bags to begin with let alone with my gigantic initial on it lol. I’d be interested to see what the sneakers/trainers look like.

Sneakers are much more wearable IMO and easy to fit into everyday life. In the promo vid there are a pair of monogrammed glam silver boots that are not available (yet?) seems so weird to show people stuff that's not for sale, I would be totally into the boots.

My thoughts are these are travel bags, I have a Gucci black leather that is as big as the maxi but it's just plain black so doesn't look so huge. Funny to take this on because BV tried doing it a few years ago 'when your own initials are enough' (something like that) and was huge flop. I could have been tempted but I'm a) disappointed the leather/skin colour choices, seem so random and b) for the price I can find better bags at Gucci.

I'm not turned off by the size of the bag as much as the style of the lettering and textile choices. For me, the choices for the lettering (color + textile type), and style of the letters sits at the awkward junction of not-really-fun and not-really-sophisticated. I can't see myself ordering one for the price point. What I would have REALLY loved is custom patches, or embellished embroidered initials, sort of like the custom Dionysus you can order at the flagship stores.

I like this bag saw on youtube and ads but I don't know how would it look on me (I have had Neverfulls MMs & GMs, sorry I know people get tired of Neverfulls, it's just easy to make comparison for me since I have enough experience with Neverfulls), this tote looks hang much lower than Neverfull, the wear on this bag maybe very fast? also the North South look of this bag means items would stack onto each other to fit in and it may not look this pretty and still holds the shape if really put lots of things into the bag?

I do like the look of leather with GG canvas comb.

Actually, glad to see the almost 50/50 split in the voting so far. Kind of how I feel with no middle ground. I can see how someone in need of a shopper or travel bag may like this a lot. It's basically a classic Gucci tote with personalisation. I guess for many of us, including me, it's like going shopping for food when you've just eaten.

BTW, you can't order these without a single initial, I think Gucci is missing a trick there.

And another thing about those sizes, those pretty models in the campaign are very slender and the bags may look larger against their frame and I'm afraid I've shown BOTH Maxis in the pics above. I think I could easily carry the Large as a shopper without looking like I could live in it.

I like the letters that are more in keeping with bags own colours. If you notice not all the colours come in both sizes which would be infuriating if I couldn't eve get the combo I wanted.

Ah geez, Paper Tiger, I was just abt to suggest not getting any lettering but then saw your note that Gucci doesn't allow that. Maybe they'll adjust the rules after awhile.
It's a No from me. Perhaps if it came with wheels and a handle.

After having just gone for some food shopping on foot and carried it home I think I'm with you!
