According to Tik Tok, Glamour, the Guardian, every Nancy Meyers movie ever made and now the Wall Street Journal, Coastal grandma style is “the privileged older woman. She’s an aspirational character, rooted in the heroines of Nancy Meyers’ early 2000s rom-coms “Something’s Gotta Give” and “It’s Complicated.” Immortalized by Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep, they are professional women over 50 with enormous white couches and a penchant for walks on the beach.”

Crisp blue button-up shirts, white jeans, linen, bucket hats… personally, I’ve been doing #CG since I was 18. Anyone else? But I’m thrilled we now have an official style. :amuse:

Any other “hallmarks” you can think of? Do you know any CGs? Are you one? Describe your vibe…

I’ve considered myself a “uniform dresser” for decades but I think I might also fit into this new category:
1. Soft ’tissue’ linen or cotton shirts and tunics worn unironed (lightly steamed if absolutely necessary) mostly by Eileen Fisher
2. Sterling (organically styled) Elsa Peretti jewelry
3. Shoes: Robert Zur driving shoes in woven leather; soft leather espadrilles; clean tennis shoes
4. I wear white; khaki; blue; denim; gray; and navy. Also a tad of black if I can’t get the item in navy.
5. I avoid logos on my clothing and would never consider wearing anything with a large brand name placed prominently on it.
6. I’m old.
7. So….am I a coastal grandma or just the eccentric old lady I see when I look in the mirror? I’m 72.

These are all photos from between one and five years ago…..

Love your style! It’s kind of fun that the Insta gals in their 20’s want to be CG style now. I’d just like to tell them no. You can’t wear those Khaki pants. No levis, Sperry’s, white t’s, Raybans, and nothing from the Gap. it’s too old for you. Lololol! :sunnies:

Can you blame them? After years of glitter coffin nails, winged eyeliner, cropped this, skinny that, mom jeans, ugly shoes and mermaid hair, all they want is a crisp white tee a pair of khakis a comfy down sofa and a glass of wine.

I know we don’t actually get to “see” you but you look so much like my favourite aunt, it makes me so incredibly happy every time you post pictures of yourself. ❤️ (Sorry if that is weird)
