Leather smell

I just got a new 2011 Bal Bag but it doesn't have that nice leather smell. Does that happen sometimes.

Yes, not all bal leather has "that" leather smell you're referring to. I think it depends on the dye type and dye process to make that particular color.

Thanks. I got a little nervous when my other new bags had it and this one didn't.

Don't be nervous. For instance, my 09 Chataigne, 10 Bleu Roi and 10 Seigle have a really strong scent. But my 10 Sahara and 10 Murier don't have any scent at all.

This is very good to know! I noticed, too, that some bags have really strong scents of the dye and it got me a little panicked. I feel better knowing that this is common and shouldn't be something to worry about too much.

Question: Does the scent eventually go away and smell more like leather over time? Or does it remain the same?

The chemical scent should diminish with use, but I don't remember if the bag will start to smell like leather only. Probably not.

Thanks for your reply, TXGirlie! It is very appreciated. Fingers crossed that the chemical smell will go away soon. It's too bad that some bags have this scent while others don't, but I guess it makes sense.
