Hello! I've been here a while but have not posted on the Longchamp forum before. I'm in NY and I'm a big fan of their backpacks especially for commuting and doing errands. My favorites are the classic black Le Pliage, the slightly larger Le Pliage Club in navy, and the large Le Foulonne in cherry red.

I found a small, black Le Pliage City top handle with the crossbody strap at Marshall's today for under $180. I've never seen this style before or this material. I've been eying the Le Pliage Cuir for long time but the leather always seemed so soft and delicate and I'm pretty rough with my bags. The City seemed like a good alternative because it has the look of leather but the canvas feels more durable. Does anyone have the City bag and can you share how the coated canvas holds up? Would it be good for rainy days? I use my nylon backpacks in the rain and love that everything remains dry inside.

Hello! I owned the LP city shopper tote size S in sand.
I really love the look and feel of the bag and for the same reasons you mentioned that it has a leather look but is actually much more fuss free than real leather.
However I’ve since rehomed it, though perhaps if it was a crossbody I would have kept it.

I was mainly annoyed by the long handles slipping off my shoulder most of the time, and it was more difficult to unzip the bag than a usual SSH (maybe due to the larger size) with the flap blocking the way (as a crossbody I think you’d have another hand free to make this easier.)

I took it out on a day with a light drizzle and there were no issues with the rain at all. My SA told me that to clean it, just take a damp cloth and wipe, simple.

However, the coated canvas material does mean that it is a semi stiff material, so I did notice sagging near the base of the bag and the sag fold seemed to be somewhat permanent unless I stuffed the bag full.
(See photo - I think it may not be something that bothers everyone)

Ultimately I sold my bag because of the combination of all the above reasons.

However for black the sagging would likely be less obvious, and overall I’m sure it’ll be a great crossbody bag!
Let us know how you find it if you do decide to purchase in the end :)

No advice just that I love your bag!

I bought this bag on sale recently and will use it with an old B30 insert, which fits nicely. This purchase means that I will be consigning two other bags from contemporary designers (Longchamp Le Pliage Neo SSH and Coach Prairie Satchel) as I rarely use medium-sized bags nowadays.

The coated canvas on the City reminds me of Epi leather, which I love, and I am a big fan of the zipper leather tab too.

I also have the small city with the crossbody strap. And I love it! I think its a good alternative for an LV speedy. And much cheeper too! I did however change the leather strap for a different Longchamp one.
Interesting to hear that you changed the strap. Was the leather strap easy to remove? And which strap are you using know? I really like the bag in theory but the strap is holding me back.
