Launer of London - The Queen's Handbags

People wonder why the Queen always carries her handbag, even around Buckingham Palace. Compare Buckingham to Caesar's (both Palaces). If you're at one end of Caesar's (away from your room), it's a very long walk to get your lipstick! The same goes for HRH-when you need fresh lipstick(and even the Royal Lips need to be refreshed), time and distance from your purse are important!

Congratulations!What a great piece - I LOVE that!

For many who may not have been around "in the day" those early pictures really show:
1. What a truly beautiful woman she was, and
2. How gracefully she's aged-no "work" done here.

BTW-all 400 of her "previously-loved" handbags in the basement of Buckingham Palace? They should include that as part of a Palace Tour package! D

thank you for posting this - lovely journey of royal fashion. Its interesting that HRH seems to carry the same style over the decades. Mostly black, occasionally white for summer and metallics for formal evening events...mmm style and restraint!;)

BTW, Picture #3 is the a very rare shot of her-she hasn't carried a clutch since...well, it's been a VERY long time.

As for the cost of the bags-her wardrobe is part of the annual household budget. I'm pretty sure that she has an idea of the cost-but it's the collection of her old handbaggs in the basement that one would have to say is priceless. In fairness, she's not a "carry-it-once" woman-the British tend to be a frugal folk...

i wonder if she knows how much things like her bags and clothes cost lol just a thought

She probably does actually. She was very much aware of (and shocked by) how much Princess Di spent on clothes because a lot of it came out of the Buckingham budget.

Here is a wonderful recent article from the NY Times about the queen and her stylists:

Outfits That Say "The Queen"

I love the last line that reports that the Queen dresses much better in private than in public, with lots and lots of jewelry!

There is a slideshow with lots of Lauder purses.
