Travel LAS VEGAS tips - questions - advice!

I'm toying with the idea of visiting Vegas during Christmas this year. After go ogling the weather in December most sites said it's roughly mid to upper 50's that time of year. Can you even go swimming at any of the hotels this time of year in Vegas? I was looking to go somewhere warmer during the holidays and while that's warmer than where I'm from (the mid west we usually visit my brother's family in Oregon but it's too gloomy for my liking around Christmas and not a lot warmer either) feel like I might not get the sun/warmth I'm looking for.

Christmas is the coldest time of year there. The highs were in the 40s a few weeks ago. Pool season is roughly April - October. Some hotels might keep one pool open during winter months, but it definitely won't be hot & sunny.

Thanks for confirming that it won't be warm this time of year. I guess I need to expand my search for the holidays. I liked the idea of Vegas since they're on the west coast so we can get relatively cheap air fair for them. And not too far from red rock canyon and even thinking of going to the west rim of the Grand Canyon for a few days outdoors. While the 50s aren't cold by my standards the 40s isn't exactly tshirt weather.

I agree with killerlife. Christmas is not really pool/tshirt weather.
What about Palm Springs? It's usually warmer than Las Vegas at that time of year. Or Scottsdale/Phoenix? Both have that similar desert landscape and mild winter temperatures.
You should be able to get a relatively inexpensive direct flight to both of those cities with someone like Allegiant or Southwest.

Thanks for the recommendations I'll start to check out southern California and maybe new Mexico. We've traveled to Phoenix a lot my grandparents used to live there any my brother lived there for a while taking care of my grandparents so I'm leaning towards somewhere we haven't been to as much.

We're going to LV beginning of April. I'd like to fly to the Grand Canyon instead of driving there in order to save time (we're going to LA later). Who has already done this? Can you recommend mavericks & sundace?

I'm going to Vegas for the first time in June for a bachelorette weekend. I'm trying to figure out how much I should budget per day. I've got to figure out the best time to buy USD especially considering how low the CAD is. I'll be there for four days, but I know the other girls want us to cover the expenses for the bride as well. So for those who have been to Vegas before -- how much should I bring? TIA!

I actually did this 2 years ago when I was in Vegas. We went with maverick and the package we chose let you land in the Canyon and eat lunch down there which was an unbelievable view. Then on the way back, they flew over the Strip which was also very interesting. Maverick was great and I would strongly recommend them.

Palm Springs is a super alternative. The weather is usually warm but with El Niño you never know what will happen. Direct flights into Palm Springs can be pricy depending on your airport of origin. I go there for biz a lot and fly Southwest to Ontario and drive to the Coachella Valley.

I'm going in June and I still need to figure out my "carry around bag". Would go with just a multicles in my pocket if it wasn't so hot

most women carry a crossbody of some sort. it can be so crowded in the casinos and sidewalks that bigger bags are a no-no and you rarely see them. i'd say something that can crossbody and is relatively small. something akin to the eva clutch or a pochette NM. i usually take the gucci disco.

I usually just carry a wristlet - big enough to carry my phone, some cash, ID, and a cigar for DH.

Thank you both! Going to find something small to wear and carry hands free

Im going again in October and getting married eekkk...

Last time we stayed at Belleagio so this time we wanted to stay somewhere different.

I chose the cosmopolitian studio terrace overlooking the fountains - i loved our view staying over them at the bellagio but with the added balcony for outdoor viewing i thought why not!

Anyway if anyone has stayed at the cosmo - any advice? Places to eat?? Shop?? Although I know crystals is next door so i need to be saving up maximum pounds to transfer into USD for all them lovely boutiques

Also, any tips on romantic things to do... ive done a helicopter ride over the strip before so im thinking check out the grand canyon??

Id like to break it up a bit more this time, although i enjoyed the casinos its nice to get out and do a few things.
X

i stayed at the cosmo last time i was there, with balcony fountain view. i was rather disappointed in it tbh, the view was the only good thing, the room was not as nice as the wynn or venetian/palazzo. bellagio is next on my list to stay at. helicopter through the grand canyon would be fun. i rode horses through the mountains (red rock canyon), which was lovely and great views. i like hash house a go go for breakfast, grimaldi's for pizza (better than the secret pizza in the cosmo imo). nobu is good for a splurge. yardbird was good for southern comfort food.
