Hi there
I have been trying to get my first chanel mini square (and first chanel bag) but none was available in the boutiques I went to (in UK and abroad) but did try mini rectangular and seasonal minis - My main concern was the feel of the leather.. I was expecting a super buttery soft feel but unfortunately, I have to be honest with myself, it felt plastic-ey and more of a "toy" bag if that makes sense, so I am very confused about what to think! I love chanel from cosmetics to accessories/shoes but just never was intrested in the bags until now and I must say I am disappointed. I have several YSL lambskin which feel so soft and are a pleasure to feel/wear, but really wanted a chanel one but now I am not sure as I don't want to get it just for the look and because it's chanel.. Is it just me? Or is it perhaps different for other models like the double flap where the leather might be softer? Any other luxury brands to recommend that have nice craftsmanship and soft leather? Thanks a lot !!

My mini feels buttery soft, however I've also felt preowned minis that have that plastic feel you describe. I always assumed they had been refurbished which would explain the difference, but if you're finding it on a new bag then it may just be the leather of that particular season. Downside to that buttery softness is that it's probably more fragile (mine already had two scratches on it when I first bought it). Just something to bear in mind.

I bought a medium classic flap from the latest collection which was lambskin and it felt so tough and plasticy like you stated. I returned it, because I was so disappointed. Did not fell nothing like the buttery lambskin bag I bought a few years ago. So disappointing.

I think the leathers can vary season to season. Even the caviars I saw in person late last year felt and looked different from the caviar on the several bags I have (which also feel different from one another since they were from different years!) I don’t own a classic Chanel lambskin but recently got my first 19 which is amazing although some TPFers have noted the lambskin on 19s are different and more resilient. Perhaps keep looking until you find a mini in a lambskin you absolutely love?

Thank you all for your input. What worried me is that it was the same feel in London and the boutique abroad which is why it made me question whether this is what I should expect from their lambskin which is obviously not the experience I have with lambskin from other brands. I don't mind if it's more delicate I just prefer that feel in my hands. Yes maybe it's the batch.. Will try again in March and maybe different styled to see but as you guys said yours are soft, I would have thought the quality should be the same for such a luxury house regardless of the seasons...

I can relate to what you have said.

My 23 years old mini square has a buttery soft leather. I feel like crazy as I love to touch her nonstop (I like to take her out from time to time just to appreciate, not to be worn).
The leather is different comparing to my new version rectangular mini which I don’t feel the same way. It’s still soft but not as buttery and yummy as my mini square.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've just received a Chanel Lambskin WOC. I have two other Chanel Lambskin items -- a Jumbo and a Rectangular Mini. Both are soft as a baby's bottom and absolutely luscious. The WOC, however, is not at all soft. I thought maybe it was my imagination. Clearly not. There's no option to exchange it for another one in Lambskin because my boutique had only this one. Plan B would be to wait for one in Caviar. Heaven only knows when that might arrive and whether the Caviar would be coated, too. Plan C would be to buy a pre-loved Lambskin one. Advice would be much appreciated!

I have a black lambskin rectangle mini with gold hardware from 2021 and absolutely love how soft and pillowy it feels. However, it scratches super easily. I love the versatility of the mini and recently bought a square mini in red from fashionphile. Will let you know how the quality of the leather feels.
