hello :)

I am deciding on my first Dior bag purchase, and am debating between the black medium Lady Dior (although I can't tell if this type comes with strap or not compared to the MyABC which would be size small) and the black cannage medium St. Honore (inserted picture below).

I've been looking on YouTube for sizing references, and I am afraid the medium st. honore (the smallest size it seems) might be too big on a short frame. Does anyone have any experience with the St. Honore?

What would everyone recommend for first purchase?

Thank you

I think the medium Lady Dior is stunning. I've admired it for years. Compared to the handles pictured above, I prefer bags that have handles that drop down at the sides to make access to the bag easier. Per the Dior website, the medium Lady Dior comes with a "thin, removable and adjustable shoulder strap" and "can be carried by hand, or worn over the shoulder or crossbody". Both are beautiful. It will be a tough choice for sure.

I love this St. Honore bag so much! It was love at first sight when I saw the bag on the video of the show. However, if you are choosing between this and the iconic medium Lady Dior, then Lady Dior wins because it is a permanent style that will be around forever. Can't say that about the St. Honore, which is newer.

And as @charlottawill said, the medium Lady Dior comes with a strap. It isn't that thin either. It is the newer one that has a belt buckle on it so that the length can be adjusted.

I went on the Dior website and the medium st honore is very close in size to the medium Dior. I’m short 5’2” but medium build, a bit stocky, and the medium lady Dior is a good size for me. For others my height who are more petite, it might run a bit large. However, luxury houses have been trying to nudge their customers to larger sizes again for a few years now

I adore the st. Honore. I think the box leather and silhouette are very reminiscent of the H whitebus, and the cannage one you posted above IMO is modern with a nod to vintage historical Dior style references. Given all of that, even if Dior doesn’t stick with the St. honore model, Id be happy to wear this classic bag irrespective of the season.

I’m just not crazy about the military belt hW on the strap; the way that the strap attaches to either end of the bag; and, I’m a PHW not GHW person. but, if there were a bag to bring me back to GHW, it might be this one. The St. honore is a bit better priced than the lady Dior, but I might be tempted to try a fun crossbody strap which will of course add. . . but I actually really like hand carrying these bags.

Im a recent convert to the Lady Dior, and so I guess, I vote both  a size small Lady Dior and a medium St honore

I wanted to add that the aesthetic of both bags are very different in my mind. Though, the dimensions are almost the same, the low way the St. Honore handles are set, and their soft quality, makes the bag seem more rectangular; this combined with the cannage quilt makes it reference something in between chanel and Dior. Such references might be perfect for someone who wants a vintage look without going to actual vintage, or who is undecided between a Chanel and Dior brand bag.

The lady Dior with its higher set structured handle, IMO, gives a very different vibe thats entirely, quintessentially Dior, since the line was popularized by Princess Diana, or even before that. This 1980s vibe is why I originally, and for many years, disliked Dior bags.p (and preferred the chanel reissue). The balck hardware of the LD I chose; the graphic qualities of the around the world embroidery print; and, the way the bag fits with Dior RTW is what predisposed me to consider LD.

Dior has two distinct types of RTW: one is tailored midnight blue or black separates, almost a capsule collection, that references the historic silhouettes and is pretty serious. That style IMO is more St. Honore. The other Dior is the fun, humorous fashion, amour, leopard, neon, and IMO , that one can carry off a seasonal LD. For this reason, perhaps a classic LD can straddle both styles And be more versatile.

The choice of size depends on whether you want a mini bag look; what function/ how much you carry; and, your frame. If you can, try both in person; one should spark an instant gut feeling

note: The box version of St Honore that I think references the H whitebus slightly is not the cannage version above, but the smooth leather one on the Dior site.

:hbeat: Thank you all so much! @averagejoe @charlottawill @880

This is extremely useful information. For some reason I was thinking the Lady Dior did not come with a strap, but it does state in the description. I do wish the vintage gold hardware was available for the Lady Dior! I believe I've seen some from the previous years. Unfortunately, I am unable to go the store to try the bags on as I live quite far from one. I assume the Dior store may have more color/style variety in comparison to the online store too.

@880 You make a great point about the two distinct types of RTW and how the Lady Dior would likely lean towards both sides. I plan to use the bag for daily use, so will have my necessities - (wallet, phone, glasses, small planner, health-related small items I need to carry). I would likely need to lean towards the medium size, although the small Lady Dior I would prefer. I wish I could try both on in person! I plan to contact an SA this week. Both are stunning bags to me. At first I was going to go with the Bobby, but I realized I needed more room. Then after looking at videos of the Lady Dior, it started to grow on me although I had considered the St. Honore prior. I wish I could get them all  but I'll slowly build up a collection.

If you are in the US, fashionphile or another reputable reseller may have lady diors in both sizes. I only mention FF bc their return policy would enable you to compare sizes on your frame. I believe FF is on the list of recommended resellers for Hermes, but you can always request on the authentication thread here (following the proper format) if you are uncertain. For soze comparisons on different body types, possibly look for posts in the Dior subforum like club house thread on the Lady Dior!; Dior in action; or, Dior RTW threads have pics of people with their bags. I also recently posted action pics with the medium lady Dior in RTW thread.
good luck and pls keep us posted on your process!

and the black cannage medium St. Honore (inserted picture below).

I saw her yesterday. A nice bag, the shape is fine but her handles are a little bit thin and it was disturbing me.
I tried LD a couple times but it didn't work. I like this bag remotely. LD with a chunky stripe is noway, because of the handles, the look becomes less sophisticated.

Good luck with your choice

I tried both on the other day
medium lady Dior and st, honore
i didn’t go home with either Bc they are quite heavy, even empty
at my current weight, the lady Dior looks better on my frame, though I do agree with @Tasha1 that it is chunkier, less sleek and sophisticated. There appears to be more craft in the construction of the St. honore (more integrated handle and top flap design). but, Dior also seems to do more special finishes for the LD. I think the LD interior may hold more

note: I’m not sure that you can fit your daily things into a small LD

Ah this is extremely helpful! So lovely! I am leaning towards the St. Honore since I do very much love the style and cannage this season. I am thinking I can get the St. Honore, then in the future get a small Lady. The small Lady might not fit my essentials, I do agree but for formal events it may be a good idea. I did contact the SA and had mentioned I was still contemplating but I don't want to miss out on this bag since I did truly love the design since watching the show. Thank you so much for sharing since I am not near a boutique, and I can see how it would look!

Sorry for bringing an older thread up. Did anyone see the St Honore bag (smooth/grained version) in person or own one? Would love to hear some feedbacks. I like the shape but am afraid it’s not too practical because it seems to me that people are using smaller bags now.

I absolutely love the St. Honore. I especially like the ones with the enameled hardware. The smallest size is actually adorable, as it looks kind of chubby in a cute way.

The grained calfskin is superb, as it is quite durable and worry-free.

When you said the smallest size, are you referring to the medium? I like the one with the cannage version too but was thinking about a bag without cannage since my Lady Dior and Caro have the cannage styles already.

I think it is the medium. The Cannage one looks so beautiful, but it is made of lambskin so perhaps the grained calfskin will be a better option if you want to use the bag regularly.
