my parents want to get me a watch as a 'leaving the nest' sort of thing, idk really, but anyway! I thought you girls would have the best advice for me. I've never really looked into watches before so I'm not sure where to begin. my dad has an old rolex he always wears, so I think it might be cool to get a rolex after him, but I'm open to anything.

but here's my specifications:
-budget within 10k.
-has to have NO diamonds whatsoever. I dislike diamonds
-has to be a brand that is known especially for their watches (so, no 'jewelry brands' such as cartier).
-should be hardy, so I can wear it without worry of damage (so no leather, and must be waterproof)

and if there's anything interesting about the watch, like ticks with your heartbeat or helps you relax etcetc, I'd consider it a plus. I once saw a watch with a little mechanical animation inside, like a little person dancing, that was pretty neat! and also another watch, where a graphic of the sun cycled with a graphic of the moon, depending on time... small touches!

any suggestions? thanks in advance!

You dislike diamonds?? :wtf: Lol. Any of the suggestions I would have made were crossed off your list... But I'm interested in hearing what others suggest! I like your checklist.

Ya I was going to recommend a jewelry brand lol.... i guess then stick with rolex if your budget is 10k.... and if you can break your rule I would still consider Van Cleef and Arpels because they have some REALLY creative watches.. they're stunning like absolutely stunning.

Sounds like you are looking for a Rolex and they have many styles sans diamonds!:smile1:

thanks for the feedback! I think I will go with rolex for sure then, will check out their nearest store next weekend. as for the suggestion on VCA, I did look at their watches, and did love their 'poetic complications' but 99% of that had LOTS and lots of diamonds, haha.

with rolex, is it possible to select your own band and dial? well, I guess I'll find out next week for sure, but would love to learn more first!

I was about to say "Cartier" (makes the best ladies' watches IMO), but since you don't want any jewlery brands, I recommend: Rolex, IWC, Longines, Patek Philippe (though this may be more expensive) & Audemar Piaget.

^one day I'm pretty sure I want a cartier trinity ring, I love the design but for a watch I want something more specific! wear yours well! :)

I like these two:
day-date everose gold
datejust 31

I also like patek phillipe's 'complicated watches' (7180 is gorgeous!), but I have a feeling they're totally outside my budget! :p and it's hard to read their face, unlike rolex's clearly marked 'thursday, 18' etc.
