Hi ladies,

I have imposed a one luxury purchase per year rule as part of my minimalist journey. I am currently debating between trying out lab diamonds and using an online company (with a physical store) to make a customised ring or to buy the Cartier trinity in the classic size.

the trinity is around £1200. The customised ring, I’m looking at around £2,000 for a solitaire with side accents.
Please help me choose!

I will eventually get both but debating which to get first.

I admire your self-control - I need to do the same!

This is a biased response as I’m not keen on the idea of lab diamonds, plus I have a Cartier Trinity ring (small model), but I would go for the Cartier Trinity. It is a gorgeous, classic ring which will never date and looks good with practically any outfit and jewellery combination. I mainly wear mine as a right-hand ring but sometimes as an alternative wedding ring. I saw a woman wearing one yesterday and it looked so lux and stylish on her.

I actually prefer lab-grown for many reasons - environmental, economic, social, etc.

But if you plan on getting both anyway and are considering what you’d like to get first, I guess it just comes down to which you like more right now. Is there any other jewelry you already wear on that hand and which would look better with that first?

I’m in the same spot...limiting new pieces to one per year and want to get both a eternity-type band and a solitaire-type.

Thanks for the responses.

I guess I should look at this logically.
1) I already have a solitaire engagement ring that hubby has gifted me as an upgrade on our tenth wedding anniversary last year and here I am planning another similar solitaire style. Probably says more about my insecurities rather than taste in jewellery. I want to go bigger bigger bigger but when will that end? And why do I want to go bigger all the time?
2) Cartier has price increases and I should probably buy these first as lab diamonds are going down in price in my experience.

so thank you for letting me reflect here and remind me to appreciate what I have and stop lusting for bigger versions which I certainly don’t need!

Trinity ring is elegant but also understated and that’s what is more me.
