Home & Garden Kitchen appliance experiences

Jul 1, 2009
Our dishwasher just died (and our washing machine is on it's way out, but that's for another thread lol).

Our kitchen appliances are all really old like 15 to twenty years, they were in the house when we bought it. Our plan was to buy new appliances when we remodeled the kitchen, but we now at least need a dishwasher.

We were thinking we may just buy a kitchen package now because the manufacturers offer all kinds of rebates it's like getting one piece for free.

Needless to say, I know things aren't made like they used to....

Wondering what your experiences were with different brands. We were looking at kitchenaid and Bosch.

What have your experiences been with either brand? We need an electric range.

If you currently have a different brand, I would be interested to hear your input as well, I am open to other manufacturers.

It's a big purchase, I figured it couldn't hurt to see what others had to say.

United States
I have had good experiences with Bosch. The dishwasher I had from them was exceptionally quiet and got the dishes clean with minimal preparatory rinsing.

I also have had good experiences with Maytag, specifically dishwasher and stove.

Both my SO and I work in the appliance industry.
That being said, I do nothing but recommend anything in the Whirlpool line. They have the same standard of quality across the board- Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn Air, Amana etc. Fantastic products.

Bosh make good dishwashers as well, but Whirlpool are just as good for less price. Often if you purchase a full package you can get one thrown in or a rebate added on. Just make sure that it has a stainless interior as well- you can do sanitizing washes and it won't absorb any odours.

I destroy appliances.
It's my superpower for whatever reason.

Have been through LOTS of dishwashers & washer/dryer sets.
The refrigerator lives on, such a trooper.

Kitchen appliance package? I don't.
Because not all items, by 1 brand, necessarily are excellent.
I hunt & peck through mismatched usefulness.
Also abhor stainless steel exteriors, due to dog nose prints.

Currently have kitchenaid dishwasher.
The expensive digital model.
It breaks. Often.
Thank God I just order parts & fix myself.
Or would be spendy process.

Before that was maytag.
It lasted well. But washed not so well.

Before that, top of the line digital whirlpool model.
It broke EVERY MONTH. Right after warranty servicing. Then sat full of water, waiting for repair guy to wander back.
Let me say, "roaches." And leave it there.
This continued into the extended warranty period--for which I paid.
Until I lost my sh!t with the unhelpful whirlpool phone helpline person.
And purchase store finally declared machine a lemon. Then gave me a maytag.
Which I installed myself. After hauling broken whirlpool back to store.

So, I hate whirlpool dishwashers.
Kitchenaid is their higher line. Which I risked.
And is better. Stainless interior is nice.

I avoided bosch for its weird little filter, which requires cleaning.
Because I wouldn't.
Though they seem quiet.

Hope helps.
