Regarding Kelly bags, all leathers, sizes, harware being equal, do you prefer a Kelly Vibrato or Crinoline? Also, though I have done I search, I can not determine which of these bags is the more pricey one. Any thoughts! TIA!!:smile1:

They are completly different bags. The only thing that they have in common is that they are not workhorse bags. They are both kind of exotic in their own way.

Vibrato is not a workhorse bag? I was hoping to find one in the secondary market as a replacement for my current workhorse. Drats.

Jadeite - Vibrato is definitely not a workhorse! It is very delicate. The leather is very soft on all those layers. When you buy one new, they give you an eraser with it so that you can kind of erase the marks that it can get because there really is no way to clean it. You have to be very careful with vibrato.

Ranag, thanks. I was so enchanted by vibrato since someone posted rox_rock's bag!

What about potomus? I couldn't find info in the kelly threads but it looks like it's more hardy and suitable as workhorse?

Potomus would be like Toile - once again, not a workhorse unless you do not mind the fabric getting beat to carp. I have a Toile Birkin that I very seldom use for that reason - I don't want to be cleaning a fabric bag all the time.

Ranag, thanks again for your valuable insight. You just saved me!

If you are looking at pre-loved bags, find one that is made of Ardennes. I have an Ardennes HAC that endures everything! I have dropped it in water, gotten mud on it, etc, and it just wipes clean and looks fabulous all the time. It is perfect for a workhorse bag!

Ranag is so right!!!

My very first Hermes bag was (and is!) a vache ardennes black kelly that is now about 16 years old. It looks like a baby and just keeps performing! It is a fabulous, tough, attractive leather. I am sure it will be around for another 16 years.

Ranag, Thanks so much for yet another Pearl of "H" wisdom!
