I purchased a Keepall 55B in damier graphite for my husband back in 2019. I love it, and of course he's always been fine with me using it when I want, but I really want to get one of my own. I love the low-key graphite. BUT even though it's not low-key (I typically only like monogram on smaller items), I really like the monogram eclipse as well. The problem is, I've seen it mentioned a couple of times that the eclipse canvas isn't great quality compared to the others. Is there anyone here who owns/has owned a monogram eclipse keepall that can confirm? Specifically, I read that the canvas is very thin, and the color wears off easily. This would be a huge determining factor. Thanks for any insight!

It is interesting, they use very different canvas types for every Keepall line. My Cobalt is VERY thick and way less flexible than my Macassar. I also heard that Eclipse it thinner, but the last time I checked in store, it felt quite rigid.

Well that gives me hope that maybe the people who had thinner/less durable canvas just got a bag from a specific one-off batch. It's a bummer either way that LV would allow sub-par canvas to be used. The canvas on my husband's keepall seems just right to me - not too thick or stiff, but not thin or flimsy. His matching toiletry bag feels the same. I just find it interesting that I've only heard this about the eclipse canvas so far.

I am sure that it differs from model to model. Just like with the Classic Monogram. When I bought my Noé, I also tried a Neverfull. The Noé was soft, and the Neverfull was very stiff. Both the same canvas, or at least on paper. But I find it understandable. If the Neverfull GM would have been made of the soft canvas that the Noé has, it would have collapsed by its own weight. I find these to be reasonable design choices.
But I don't really get, why different Keepalls have different levels of softness and thickness.

The quality of monogram eclipse canvas on my keepall 45 is definitely on par with the damier graphite one:

I like monogram on travel bags and damier pattern on suitcases, but this is just personal preference.

I'm glad to hear that your eclipse keepall is good quality. I really like the gray/black tone patterns for any travel/luggage/suitcase styles. I know they are geared more towards men, but I just prefer them over the original monogram and damier ebene. Not that there's anything wrong with those. Your pieces are lovely!

I agree with your theory about canvas variations between different models - it makes sense. But when it comes to bags that are the same style, consistency should be a given. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. At LV's price points, you should know what you'll be getting. It shouldn't be a crap shoot. I'm hoping to go to into the store this weekend and put my hands on both prints to compare.

Thanks! Have you looked into monogram eclipse reverse? The black and grey combo looks fierce

I just googled it. I'll be honest, the photos on the reseller websites did not do anything for me. BUT I saw a couple of photos from people who personally own it, and it looks MUCH nicer in those. Looks like it was a limited run that sold pretty well!
I really love the bandouliere 50 with the black leather and the strip of eclipse down the middle (I think it's called Taigarama?), but $3k is over what I'd choose to spend on a travel bag. But it's beautiful!

I bought my husband the mono eclipse keepall last year and it's on par with my mono macassar from a couple of years before.

That's very encouraging! I think that people are more apt to post about negative experiences than they are about positive ones, so maybe that's why it seems like eclipse canvas has more issues than others. Hoping that's the case here.

Ive owned the keepall 55b in the monogram eclipse for about a year and half now ( my first LV purchase!). The canvas feels very high quality , and not flimsy or low quality. It also does not show any noticeable signs of wear and tear. I would definitely go for it !

That's really good to know! As of right now, my closest store has both canvases in stock, so I'm hoping when I go there tomorrow, I can check both out and compare. If the eclipse does indeed feel nice, it'll be a really hard decision! I prefer something more low-key like the damier graphite, but there's just something about the eclipse I really like as well.

So I went to LV yesterday and luckily they had both the damier graphite and the monogram eclipse available to check out. In a side-by-side comparison, the graphite canvas felt slightly stiffer than the eclipse, but the eclipse didn't feel thinner or flimsier at all. So I felt very reassured by that. So after a few minutes of deliberation and probably a too-thorough inspection, I purchased the monogram eclipse! Just wanted to thank everyone who provided their insight and experience about their bags, as it was a big help.

On a side note, we realized that the metal button/rivet thing by one of the d-rings on the outside of my husband's keepall had snapped - as in the metal had broken clean in half. It was very odd. But my SA took a look at it and said they'd fix it free of charge since it was definitely a defect, so we were able to get that squared away in one trip. It'll take like 2 months to get back, but hey, at least it was free.20210403_164152.jpg

Looks stunning! Is the leather on the mono eclipse the same leather as the damier graphite?
