Hey,

A close friend of mine bought a Keepall Bandoulière 45 in DG. A couple of days later he received the same bag as a birthday gift from his gf. He thought about keeping both but came to the conclusion that it'd be unnecessary to own two bags of the exact same kind. I was looking to get a Keepall for myself and he asked me if I'd like it for a significantly lower price than retail (about 30% less). He's only used the bag once and it looks completely unused and comes with the complete box etc. The only issue is one thing - there's no padlock. He said that Keepalls no longer include padlocks. Is that true? I'm not insinuating that I don't trust him, I'm just extremely paranoid when it comes to items like LV that are faked to the extreme. He purchased it at our local LV boutique and I'll also get the original receipt. He didn't hot stamp it, which is something I'd like to do, so if it'd be a counterfeit they'd recognize it in the store.

So, it it true that they no longer include padlocks with the Keepall 45, or might it just be so that they forgot to include it in the store?

Thank you.

Very unlikely that the store forgot. The keys are packed separately but the bag itself has the padlock attached by default from the factory. I suspect that they just want to keep it or already gifted it or something.

It's a pain to use the padlock to be honest. They are included with the purchase from the boutique..if he received 2 of them as gifts at the same time but only ONE (the one he's keeping) came with a padlock..this story of them "no longer being included" is BS. If someone lies about this, I wouldn't buy anything from them.
It's also highly suspicious anyone would take a 30% loss instead of simply returning the one he received a few days later to the boutique.

After reading this, I decided to go check my Keepall B 45 mono Macassar for the lock and key.
At first I couldn't find them or the strap and I got worried. For some reason I had them in a LV bag, in a drawer with some
of my extra LV straps. Got this several years ago from Hawaii and have never used it but it was an item I WANTED :)

Please let us know what you find out and decide!

I called LV and they told me that they'd give me a set of locks for free if they forgot to give it in the first place. Also, he told me that they could scan the chip and see if the bag is authentic. I don't doubt it's authentic. A bit weird to sell it to a friend and also include the receipt.

As long as you are comfortable buying it, is all that really matters. I know if someone gave me an LV I already bought myself a few days prior, I would go back with my gf and shop for something else instead of taking a hit on the credit amount. The rest is in your hands, good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks! Just one question: have there been cases of the new bags with micro chips being faked? Can’t find any info on faked micro chips.

Some 'eastern' ateliers have started to put small NFC chips into fake bags even before Vuitton started to do that, so they can be ready in advance. The chips are not meant for the end user though. The fake chips usually redirect you to the Louis Vuitton website, or the product page of the item. The real chips show a jibberish code if we scan them, they only reveal their secrets with the help of the LV servers. When a Sales Associate scans the chip, the Vuitton server checks the code on their private, encrypted blockchain. Which cannot be accessed or modified outside of the Vuitton domain. Only they can write new data into it (registering new bags), and only they can read from it too. So even if the fake bag has an NFC chip, when they scan it in-store, the secret will be revealed. But honestly, I have never ever seen a fake bag so good, that an enthusiast cannot tell apart just by looking at it.

Just wanted to tell you that there indeed was a padlock included with the bag. The small pouch was hidden inside the inner zip pocket. My friend was totally unaware that it was there and genuinely thought that the Keepalls no longer come with padlocks. Just an honest mistake!

I went to the local LV store and had my initials hot stamped without any issue. The saleswomen told me that she wasn't allowed to scan the micro chip for some reason (something about that it can't be scanned outside their ateliers). But I guess all is still well? There's nothing that tells that the bag is fake. All the accessories where included and I could scan the chip with my iPhone (although the info generated is useless without having access to the LV servers). Also, as told earlier, I even have the receipt.
