K25 advice needed: Etoupe sellier vs. Bleu nuit retourné

Hi all,

Please help me choose between two Kelly 25:
1) Sellier Etoupe in epsom leather PHW
2) Retourne Bleu nuit in togo leather GHW

I already have a K28 Gris Tourterelle retourne in togo w/ GHW.

I’m planning to have four Kelly bags: two K25 and two K28, in these colours:
- Gris tourterelle (already have)
- Etoupe or gold
- Bleu nuit, Bleu de Prusse or Bleu saphir
- Black (only in box sellier)
- Rouge casaque

I like both styles in both sizes but slightly prefer K28 in retourne due to its practicality and K25 in sellier with its more formal silhouette.

I wear mostly neutrals: black, navy, white, tan, sometime reds and pinks. Other bags in my collection:
- Chanel black medium CF GHW
- Chanel beige clair small CF GHW
- Mini Roulis fauve barenia faubourg PHW
- Constance to go gold epsom GHW
- Mini Lady Dior in pale pink

I might want to have a Birkin at some point in the future but it’s optional as I’m not a huge fan of my bag not having a strap.

What do you think? Please help me choose!

If I were you I’d pick bleu nuit retourne for now just cause you already have a gris tourterelle. But since it’s a retourne and you said you want a sellier for a 25, a bleu nuit 25 in sellier is actually a good option too. Also, its my personal opinion but proportions wise, the 25 looks better in a sellier than a retourne. Good luck on your decision!

What about a blue nuit sellier?

I feel like you should add a sellier first since you already have a retourne. But I feel you have GT and gold already in your collection, which is kind of similar to etoupe that you may have more diversity if you add a blue nuit.

You have clearly thought through the range of Kelly bags that will be useful to you.

The bleu nuit best fills the colour gap in your list.
The retourne/sellier question you have got to decide for yourself. If you love the bag you will use it for the appropriateness of its colour to your outfit rather than its difference in style.

Both options sound wonderful, and based on how you described your style and the bags you already have, I think you would enjoy both of them. Can you see them and try them on IRL? If so, I would go in person and take the one that makes my heart sing. You already have a great collection of neutrals, so I think this Kelly doesn’t need to meet the « rule » of matching all your wardrobe or being a forever piece - both of them will be. I would take the one that makes me happier!

Thanks for your insight, I agree that bleu nuit adds more diversity and usefulness to my collection. I just feel that I’d prefer a bleu nuit in togo for it being a workhorse. Maybe I’ll try to see a bleu nuit sellier IRL but it’s not easy to come across one ^^

It’s true that I tend to stick to classic style and my wardrobe as well as my bag collection are also built that way.
I did try both in person on two different days and coincidently on both days I was wearing outfit that matched so well with each bag and that’s why I was so torn. Wish I can buy both
However the 25 size in sellier still makes my heart sing a bit more so I think I’ll go with it ☺️

I agree with going with whatever makes your heart sing more, and I voted for etoupe sellier out of your choices. But since you already have GT, I would personally wait for a gold sellier. I love the architectural lines of the sellier BK, and I find size 25 (I have K25 bleu orange and B25 sellier gold) very versatile. I prefer the hand held to a shoulder strap on a bag with some weight bc it’s better for the longevity of RTW. And, I personally think if you have mainly ghw, a phw bag would be a nice balance.

I have a K28 ret that I almost never wear (Nero, phw). I tend to grab a B30 barenia Nero when I want that size instead, or a 28K sellier (DH calls my 28 K seller in bleu indigo, brushEd phw, the sexiest bag in the world lol. He prefers size 28/30 on me as the most natural size and thinks the smaller bags are a bit like toy bags. (But, I’m a size 38 Chanel, 40 dior, 34-38 Hermes, and many members here carry mini bags, 25s, and retourne perfectly). I gravitate towards sellier, which I wear casually. But, since I don’t carry much, my mini tpm Evelyns are probably my most used lol.

I may reconsider and wait for a gold sellier! I’m really torn between gold and etoupe, since I already have a Constance to go in gold, I’m leaning slightly more towards etoupe because gold doesn’t go well with some colours in my wardrobe such as pink or red while etoupe seems to match most colours even though it looks a bit muddy ^^!

I’ve seen that a lot of ladies prefer B to K due to its practicality but I commute several times a week and using a bag without closure (unless you really close the flap but I don’t like that look) and strap such as Birkin seems unsafe. It’s a perfect companion in your car though

Your hubby seems to have great taste like you! I’m 5’4 and wear FR34/36 size, sometimes big bags look a bit bulky on me. When I try K25 sellier & K28 retourne, they look almost the same size on me.

If you want it for day/night I wouldn’t suggest etoupe or gold. They both look more like day colors to me. I know I know anyone can wear any color day or night. But just personal preference.

Love Love Bleu Nuit. Agree about it in Togo as an every day, but I also prefer 25 in Sellier, 28 in Retourne. So no help there. lol.

It's so individual, as you can see how picky we all get with our preferences...lol. It's sounds cliche, but go with what you love and will use.

I agree. A K25 sellier is a fun, formalish bag, great for nights out etc. K Retournes are always a better casual bag, but the K25 proportions just don't work for me, and don't hold all that much either, limiting their practicality as a casual, hold everything bag.
