Just got the Noe. Am I crazy to be "chill" about the vachetta?

It was 4 weeks since my last Louis Vuitton handbag purchase, so I had to go to the store to get my dopamine hit. I've been obsessing about the monogram Noe for the last couple weeks because I wanted a larger bag that I could travel with and that would carry my laptop (or all those bottles of champagne I'm always toting around), and the store had one in stock, so I bought it!

Question - this is my first handbag with vachetta. My other is a Speedy B 25 in DE. I've read so many of the posts on what other people do (patina champ method, Apple Guard, Kiwi....). I'm 100% sure that I do not want to treat it with any spray. I could be persuaded to do the patina champ method, but is it necessary? I really like how the patina looks on the Noe, so I'm not worried about it getting darker. Water marks would be unfortunate, but they even out over time right?

As long as I don't walk around in the pouring rain with this bag, is it crazy to just not be concerned about the vachetta and let it do its thing? It seems like everyone is so afraid of vachetta...am I naive for trying not to be concerned about it?

I have the regular sized original Noe in Damier Azur. I too, thought there was no need to put a spray on it. I am always super careful where I place it, due to the leather base. Regardless, it still darkened, but unevenly in some areas, despite the care I took. I suspect that different pressure points on the base due to different items over the years, moisture, humidity, etc. caused this. In retrospect, I would definitely at the least put some light protective spray on the leather/base so the overall color change isn't so noticeable.

Thanks for posting this question! I'm new to vachetta as well -- my oldest bag with vachetta is less than a year old -- so I'm very interested to hear how others' bags have aged without any treatment. I'm inclined to not be concerned, either -- my thought is, if these bags needed to be treated, LV would have done it themselves, or, at the very least, recommended how to do it. But I'm interested to hear what others with older bags have to say!

I tried it all. Patina champ, apple garde, kiwi, collonil, and leather care kit. Guess what? The Louis Vuitton gods decided that I needed to learn to just leave it because it’s better that way.

Side story: I wanted to use my brand spanking new Noe bb after an exam so I put it on the floor of my car (so that it’s inconspicuous) on it’s dust bag. What I didn’t realised was the carpet of my car was soaking wet because of some clogged problem in the sunroof. The bottom of my bag was completely soaked and all I could do was to let it dry. There is a big watermark on one corner of my bag but I learnt to laugh it off and just enjoy it. It really is not that bad and the vachetta developed a nice patina.

It's great to hear from someone who has a lot longer experience with Louis Vuitton! I'm sorry that happened to your brand new Noe bb, but I love your attitude about it. I hope that I can laugh off any future "incidents" and just enjoy it as part of the history of my bag. Life is too short, I'd rather use my bag and have it show some marks, then to have it look "pristine" in my closet.

I never thought about treating bags until I joined this forum:lol:. I have not treated my pre-loved bags that have vachetta, but I did treat my brand new speedy b 25. I only did it because I moved to area where it rains several times a week. If I was living in a drier area, I probably would not have treated it. I prefer the honey patina on a bag. I have vintage bags that I clean periodically to remove the hand oils that can darken the most used areas.

What do you use to clean?
