Many handbag collectors use the change of seasons as a perfect time (or excuse) to
move into different handbag styles/materials/textures/patterns. Or to buy new ones.
Of course we can wear any handbag all year long, if we want to.
But it's nice to rotate our collections and the coming of a new season gives us the
desire or push to enjoy another part of our collections and buy new handbags.

Whether it's the fashion shows or online videos or shopping channels or store windows/advertising,
I start to crave my burgundy/bordeaux/wine and forest green handbags as we approach September.
The weather may still be warm, but my level of joy from my beautiful summer colors is lower than
when I pulled them out a few months ago. Guess the excitement factor has worn off after a few months.
And deeper rich colors and leather textures seem to go so well with fall/winter clothing.

As a transition, I've moved into some of my embossed textured handbags in lighter or medium shades.
Last week it was a Dooney Pearl Ostrich drawstring with deep grey trim. Next week I'm using
a snake embossed Brahmin in shades of taupe, cream, tan, deep brown, with coral accents.
It's also a reason to change out the SLGs. I didn't need any of these bags or SLGs, but as long
as I own them, I'm determined to enjoy them.

So, have you given your Fall handbag wardrobe any thought? Is there something in your collection
you can't wait to wear again? Or is there something new that you are craving?

Great topic...I also have been thinking Fall...looking forward to my Tmoro browns as well as Chestnut and Navy..gets me ready for Thanksgiving and leaves changing and sweaters....fuchsia and salmon will be going to the back of my closet.

I'm looking forward to carrying my red suede bag this fall when I'm riding in cars, not walking. I have 3 MK totes and a Dooney nylon Smith bag. All orange and great for fall, but I'm not sure how often I'll carry them.

I've been rotating thru my taupe bags, including Brahmin snake prints and croco embossed.
I wore a Dooney Flo Elephant large Amelie the other day.... that color does not make me happy....
I added a bright silk scarf with fuchsia and royal blue to enhance the look. I know it's
all personal as far as color goes, but Flo Elephant is too muddy brown for me. In pebbled
leather it's much more grey and pleasing.

My light taupe Dooney bag is up next.

I've moved my orange and white bags aside to make room 'up front' for the fall colors.
The Dooney burnt orange and saddle are calling for attention.
I think I'll be changing bags every 2 days, just to get to enjoy some of them....
even if I'm not leaving the house much. It doesn't matter if they
coordinate, match, or even work with an outfit if I'm not carrying them out.

I agree that the taupe has to be just right for me to love it.
Burnt orange sounds perfect for rigjt now.
I need to rotate more. Too many of my bags stay on the shelf for too long.

It's easy to stay in a handbag when you love looking at it or carrying it.
It was somehow easier to switch out handbags when I was making an effort to
coordinate my handbag with my outfit.... either for work or social activities.
At least then I had a purpose to switch.

Now the 'reason' for changing is just to enjoy more of my collection and
'justify' to myself that I needed to own them all.

It's time for a handbag edit.... but there are very few I don't still want to keep.
It's a space issue. And I know that in the world of problems, it doesn't even
make the list to have to worry about handbag storage. Finding new loving homes
for my underused handbags is good for the planet. I need to remind myself of that.

I think I can pull out my red suede bag now, but the issue is the maintenance. You may be able to see in the first picture, there's a small water stain on the handle. That happened the first time I carried it when I was with my DD. I loaded it up this morning with everything that was in my siggy satchel and just walking around the apartment it doesn't feel any heavier than my siggy satchel. I'll know for sure once I take it on one of my walks. I'll just have to be careful with it when I carry it. I may carry it the next time I walk, but I'm really enjoying my red siggy satchel now.

I gifted one of my Smith's to my mother yesterday...she was overjoyed...the smell of the leather....the storage...the carry. Yes. Helping the planet.

RN: over the years I have had many Dooneys with medium tan colored handles.
Yes, they will water spot, even if the rest of the bag is pebbled leather and water
resistant. I've found that using a little conditioner on the handles and trim before I
take the bag out in the rain seems to keep the handles/trim looking good.
I haven't used anything fancy, just some apple conditioner or mink oil (paste).

As for Dooney suede and water resistance and stain resistance....
I know what they are saying now. I wonder what the Dooney web site says.
In the past the site had cautions about using suede in wet weather.

This is from the Dooney site now:

"Our suede has been treated for general water repellency. However, some water absorption is possible within excessive water conditions. If this happens, use a dry cloth to blot excess liquid and allow the material to dry thoroughly. Once dry, a suede brush should be used to gently lift the nap.

Due to the unique texture, use consideration when wearing in inclement weather. In addition, take care as to where these particular handbags are stored when not in use. This consideration will keep the soil on the bottom to a minimum and maintain the optimal beauty of the handbag.

Please note, anything containing dyes (ball point pens, lipsticks, etc.) cannot be removed as they will re-dye the surface."

Sounds like Dooney is saying you don't need to worry about their suede IF you don't use the bag in less than perfect weather conditions. I'm going to treat it like all my other bags and we'll see how well it survives. Unfortunately we don't get a lot of rain here so I think I can carry it often.
Thanks, as always!
