JR977 Engagement Ring

I have been recently engaged with my long term boyfriend and today I noticed a "JR977" marking on the engagement ring. But I wonder what does JR977 mark on it means.
Is it a code for the diamond? or something code for rhodium,palladium or platinum coating over a 925 sterling silver?

but I don't see a 925 either. does using acid solution will destroy its polished outer layer? How will I know what kind of material the ring composed?

925 is silver. If it's platinum it should have a pt or pt950 or plat stamp. If it's gold it will have a karat stamp: 14 or 18 or even something like 750au. Do you know what it's supposed to be? You can take it to a jewelry store and have the bench jeweler test it.
