Gosh,I don't know where you are based,so my help will be a bit limited I'm afraid!! But if you go for a single pearl pendant, they can look young and contemporary, with the fresh edge you want, especially if you go for a black or dark colored pearl on white gold! Let us know your thoughts and how you get on!

i just dont know where to go everywhere they sell pearls i want to really treat myself i dont know what brand is better as in pearls what jewlery store is better ? i love tiffany and i know there name do they sell good pearls ? i'm kinda lost - i dont really buy to much jewlerly so when i do i want it to be the best am not talking my life savings or anything but you know something timeless i live in Nc i know i know no mans land But if you guys have some stores i can shop at or some brand with a good name that could be a start also what 2 look for how to know what a good pearl looks like stuff like that

Hi ksammon, are you interested in cultured pearls or natural pearls? I love South Sea pearls - I think they are the best. But I do live in the region so it is easy to get them here.
I suggest checking out www.jewelmer.com/home.html They carry some of the best South Sea pearls available and have contemporary styles as well. For the price of cultured pearls from Tiffanys you can get south sea pearls that are gorgeous and unique. I own a few pieces from them and they've served me really well (always get compliments!).
Good luck!

I agree.. Places such as Tiffany and Mikimoto sell cultured akoya pearls of different quality. Mikimoto carries pearls of AAA quality to AA quality. I am not sure if they carry A quality pearls. So if you purchase say a A or AA quality strand of pearls from Mikimoto, the quality is not going to be anyway near the AAA quality strand from a good jeweler, and it is likely to cost you more. Akoya pearls are generic, they come from Japanese pearl farms and there is no need to go for a branded strand since you are paying for the brand name only. Go for quality instead (thick nacre, excellent lustre etc).
