I have a dilemma.
I have a Tiffany solitaire diamond, that I bought in 1998 for about $750 bucks.
It is this one:

I'm currently having the chain lengthened (my older self's neck cannot handle 16" any more, lol)
Here is my dilemma:
I never wear this. Even when I lengthen it, I may never wear it. Several years ago I bought a separate .80 ct DBTY style necklace so I am well set for a diamond solitaire around the neck style.
I don't want to sell it because I bought it for a milestone birthday.
Also: I have 2 sapphires loose and 2 diamonds loose that aren't set in anything.
I am currently thinking about having my jeweler tear it apart and take the diamond out of the prongs and reset it in a DBTY bezel, along with the other 4 stones and adding them to the chain to make a DBTY and SBTY necklace.
I have the chain, the stones and it would just be reworking them.
The final design might look something like this, but inverted because there are 3 diamonds and 2 sapphires. The sapphires are oval and are slightly different sizes. The diamonds are round and 2 are the same size and one is a different size.

What do you all think?
Should I do it?
Keep things as they are?
Is it a horrible violation to tear up a Tiffany piece?
Any other ideas about how I might utilize a platinum chain, 3 diamonds and 2 sapphires?
I don't see anything wrong with taking it apart, especially if you really don't want to part with it and will not wear it as is. Your necklace idea is a great one, I really like that style. Would you consider buying one more diamond and making convertible drop earrings with a diamond stud then a sapphire and diamond that can attach and hang below?

I think the mismatch of stone sizes would look really cool.
I decided against it! It looks so great on a longer chain, I'm fine with it. I am resetting an older diamond I have into something new. Anyone else have any projects?
I'm glad it worked out for you.
I have several small diamonds, ranging from about 5 -20 points, that I don't know what to do with, if anything. The obvious solution would be to put them into a ring, but I have enough rings and would prefer something else. I didn't think the small ones were worth bothering with, but then I saw that some of the DBTY are only 5 points, so maybe something along that line, I like your idea, gives me something to think about.
I'm glad you didn't reset it, it'll be nice to have different chain length options. Are you going to go the bracelet route?
