Jewelry and vat refund- love bracelet

When getting a vat refund in Europe (milan)
Would I need my jewelry to be in its box?
Plan to buy a love bracelet and I assume you wear it at the store? Will this be a problem for my vat refund?

depends.... sometimes customs officials will ignore it, but technically you are not supposed to use/wear what you purchased in Europe. sometimes if you are wearing what you want VAT refund for, they can deny you your refund.
