This kind of lacquerware has a long history . It became popular during the Tang dynasty and prospered during the Ming and Qing dynasties . It is one of only four famous lacquerware in China.
i think what she means is the style of the lacqure and the usage of it on jewelry boxes was first made popular in the Tang dynasty...but then agian i'm not quite sure!
