The good, the bad, and the ugly…

I was so excited for this bag. It came in several great, neutral colors, including an elegant pearl grey and a gorgeous dark burgundy. I liked the lightweight, saffiano leather. I liked the shape with the two exterior pockets, a la the LV Totally. There were plentiful interior pockets (4 patch and 1 large zip). The handles were a comfortable drop length, with an additional hole above and below the default one. This meant that I could lengthen the handles and still use it when wearing bulkier coats. It was a good size. I was able to fit an In Style magazine, long wallet, cosmetic bag, re-useable nylon tote, phone charger, and various small items that went into the patch pockets.

I wanted to take advantage of a Macy’s sale and it was the only store near me that carried the Bordeaux color, so I went to pick up the bag today. I came home and discovered that the underside of the handles was horribly stitched, and so I went to exchange the bag for another one. I carefully inspected the handles and found ones that were good enough and scanned the body of the bag for any discolorations.

Then I went home, inspected the bag, and found different flaws. The logo looks a little off: the I seems a little too close to the M, and the S seems a little higher than the rest of the name. Also the color flaked off around the I and the C of the logo, as well as by the zipper.

I’m so mad at myself for not paying closer attention. Now I have to make another trip back. I’m disappointed because I like the Bordeaux color so much. Maybe it’s this particular color but I wanted to share with others who were interested in this tote in the saffiano leather.

This is a gorgeous bag! But I totally understand where you're coming from. Even the smallest things can make you go nuts, and since you're shelling out decent money for these products you want to make sure they're as perfect as humanly possible! You're also going to be living with this bag for many years...who wants to be constantly reminded of the little flaws that we weren't happy with when it was first purchased?

I totally support you going back and finding one that's exactly the way you want it. :smile1:

I understand your frustration too. I have this bag in purple coming to me tomorrow from Nordstrom's. I will pay close attention to the details now.

You pay good hard money for something that should be perfect. You have every right to expect the bag to not be damaged.

Good luck with your return trip to Macy's. Please keep up posted.

I did go back to Macy's this morning and did another exchange. I'm keeping this bag: the logo is better aligned and and the stitching on undersides of the handles is decent. I think there could have been something with the batch of bordeaux bags Macy's got. The other colors look better finished.

My pics don't do an adequate job of capturing the burgundy tones.

Gypsycruiser, please let me know how your purple bag turns out. I really love the style and functionality.

Thanks everyone for the support!

Glad you are keeping your bag.

Will do.....waiting for UPS......says delivery by end of day but hoping he'll get here earlier.

How funny that your bag looks like the bordeaux in your pic! :D

Hmm, tough decision. The Hamilton tote seems roomier and has the crossbody option.

I agree......the pic looks more wine color but it is more purple IRL. Not bordeaux or wine color at all. But also not a bluish purple either.

Yes, the N/S Hamilton tote is larger IMO. But am thinking, since I have them side by side, the jet set is easier to get in and out of do to the wide zipper opening. But both are gorgeous bags.

Have you put your regular items in each bag to test out each one feels and looks? It's nice to have to decide between two great bags! :D

Haven't done anything yet. I will take a few pics of all three (Hamilton N/S, Hamilton E/W and Jet Set ) side by side after I get the Hamilton satchel tomorrow. Then I'll decide which ones I am keeping and which I am sending back.

Another question - how comfy are the skinny straps?? When the bag is loaded are the straps still comfy??

Very comfy!!
I had no issues while in vegas with this bag.. I carried 2 bottled water, full size camera, wallet, plus loose odds and ends .. No issues
