Given many of you are connoisseurs of fine handcrafts and leather items, I thought you might appreciate my latest purchases this month

I got a card holder and a purse in bunko leather from Japan. Bunko leather is a white leather that had gone through a unique processing technique.

They use softened pure white leather that is embossed with a heated metal plate to transfer these intricate patterns. They then painstakingly hand paint each detail by hand. Then the leather is lacquered to give it a patent like finish.

I find these bunko leather items beautiful and am so happy to have purchased these. They are very unique and I haven’t seen anything like this before. I’m planning to give the card holder away as a birthday present for a friend but will keep the purse for myself. I’m looking forward to using it!

I hope that some of these photos give an idea of how beautiful these are and that you can see the embossing!

I am half Japanese and love discovering that part of my heritage  Japan has such a strong history in really impressive craftsmanship. There are so many beautifully made items.
I agree, the colours and patterns are so beautiful!

This bag is delightful! How does it wear though, you probably shouldn’t get it wet? Is it a ‘special occasion only’ bag?
I think because it has a patent leather like coating it should be okay with some drops of water as long as it’s not soaked in it. The care instructions just say to make sure to wipe it dry.

I found this company has some beautiful examples and also ships internationally:https://oozeki-japan.com/
