Why did PayPal say they are holding the funds? I've had that message from PayPal before but they advised me not to ship until the matter had been cleared, so I'm surprised that they are asking you to ship before the hold is lifted, that doesn't sound right?

i have no idea why paypal is holding my $. i don't know if this is a random thing or what. this is the e-mail that i received:

Dear XXXXXXX,

You've received a payment, detailed below. We’ve placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction.

PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay.

Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We’ll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs:

The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
We confirm that the item was delivered.* We can confirm delivery if you ship the item with USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either use PayPal shipping labels or upload tracking information from the transaction details page. This applies to transactions within the United States.
Additional hold period

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved.

Learn more about the PayPal policy for payment holds for eBay items.

We will notify you by email when the funds are released. You can monitor the status of the hold in your Transaction History.

* This applies to US domestic transactions that are shipped by USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either (i) use PayPal shipping labels to ship items or (ii) provide tracking information to PayPal.

I believe if you do not have over 100 feedbacks and 10 DSRs you will be subject to paypal's 21 days hold (the hold seem to apply more to new sellers of high-end designer goods). It's really stink because I can't imagine any seller would ship before they have their money.

Assuming the PayPal email was addressed to you by name (and you know it's legit), I would go ahead and ship as per their instructions, and update the transaction info so thay can confirm you sent it.

That's so annoying! I had something similar happen with Google checkout, they wouldn't release the funds until they had confirmed that I had shipped the item.

just do it. ship it out. that will show that you are a reliable seller and less likely to have it happen again. it is part of a checks/balances system for new sellers. it happened to my husband, he shipped the item, got the money 3 weeks later.

money orders aren't going to be allowed as payment on ebay anymore, so might as well get it over with one or two times, and show paypal you ship reliably. if you cancel the sale, for one, the hold is because YOU are a new seller, nothing with the buyer, so you are penalizing the buyer, and two, it will just keep happening everytime you sell.

it'll be fine after you ship. in fact, you can send them tracking and i believe they will release it sooner. or when the buyer leaves feedback.

i had this happen to me on one of my small accounts. all you have to do is put in the tracking info for PayPal (add tracking info link). then 3 days after when the item has a confirmed delivery (according to your courier of choice) PPal will release the money. You don't always have to wait for the 21 days or for the buyer to leave you feedback (in this case must been positive feedback). Once I called PPal customer service on the 2nd day after it showed delivered and the rep credited my account since I was always in good standing, but they say it usually is always done 3 days after confirmed delivery. I usually don't want to hunt/push the buyer to leave feedback. these days i feel no feedback might actually be better than pushing and getting a neg. So just enter the tracking number for that item in PPal then wait for delivery. GOOD LUCK!! it's not too bad but it's a hassel when you have a low feedback account and rarely sell.

Send the item with delivery confirmation and remind your buyer to leave FB when they receive it. The funds will be released in a day or 2 after delivery is confirmed and your buyer leaves positive FB. So if you ship quickly, you're looking at about a week before you get your $.

i did a little searching and now i see that this is very common w/ ebay/paypal. this sucks! :cursing: i knew i should have stated mo only!

If you choose to continue to put your financial safety at risk by using PayPal, you might as well get used to this. It won't be long before they are holding all payments from all sellers fro the full 21 days, regardless of delivery.

They're sucking up the interest from the 21 day 'float' on your money and once they see how much that is, they'll find a way to get more even if that means changing policy again.

thanks everyone for all of your help. i guess i have no choice but to mail it out. is there some special place that i'm suppose to put the tracking info on paypal? i normally don't use the label from paypal and i go to the po myself and then email the seller the tracking info. i know that i need to get delivery confirmation, but do i also need signature confirmation? tia

If the item is $250 or more, you are required to have signature confirmation. I think it would be easier if you can print postage through paypal so at least you can proof that you did send the item.
