Way back in 2011, I bought a tan Kooba Devin Hobo at the thrift store for $12.99. The bag was kindly authenticated here on TPF by @BookWriter. It was made of Italian Lambskin and had been released in 2007. It originally retailed for $535.

The bag was in bad shape, it was dirty inside and out and had some pen-marks. At that time I had already rehabbed some other bag brands - but I was not familiar with Kooba or with lambskin - and so it seemeded like a challenge. I was afraid to try to rehab it, so I put it away and then I forgot about it!

Last year I got lucky again and I found a NWT gray Kooba Sloane bag at a thrift store for only $3. It was in great shape and all I had to do was moisturize it. I have worn it several times and I really like it a lot. It is also made of Italian Lambskin and the bag feels so soft and luxurious!

Recently, I was digging through my "Rehab Pile" looking for a "project purse" and I found the tan Kooba Devin stuffed inside of a tote bag. I was so surprised to discover that I already owned another Kooba! So I decided to finally attempt a rehab.

The bag was so dirty that I had to bathe it in mild soap and water and then stuff it with towels to reshape it while drying. I gave it 3 treatments with moisturizers, allowing it to rest in-between applications. That was all I did besides gently buffing the brass hardware.

The bag developed a nice, rich tan patina after rehabbing. I was able to remove/lighten the ink marks but it still shows some signs of wear. At least it is clean and it looks much better IMO. I've already carried it a few times and it is a lovely, comfortable bag; I'm glad that I found her again and gave her the attention she deserves!

Here are some before pictures of my $13 tan Kooba Devin:

I thought it might be a Caitlin but yup, you're right, it's a Devin.

It's a terrific buy at $13! It originally sold for the mid $500s.

The Caitlin is similar but without the pockets.

As for cleaning, there are a number of good leather cleaners out there. Coach makes some (at $10 a bottle, not at all pricey) and the Lovin My Bags site also sells excellent cleaners and restorers.

Well done for not giving up on this bag, and for the job

It looks great now, I love this shade of caramel brown.

great job....that was a long time coming

Such a nice warm colour...and the leather looks cuddly.
Beautiful job as usual.

Thank you! The Italian Lamb Leather really is very soft, smooth, and cuddly!

The Devin was a popular bag and Kooba released it in a variety of colors, including red - wow! And it was also released in different materials, including suede and patent.

Below are photos from a Nordstrom ad for the bag shown in a light tan Italian leather color called "Blonde" and it is gorgeous!

It is possible that my bag started out as Blonde because the leather is very light inside of protected areas, like the insides of knots and pockets. But I am glad that it has darkened after the rehab, because I think that the deeper color has helped to cover signs of wear and abuse - and I really love that new, rich, tan color!

They sound lovely! I am sorry that I missed the Kooba era because they made some very nice bags! The link below shows the stone gray Slone bag that I bought NWT from the thrift store for only $3 - now that was a lucky find! And now I own 2 Kooba bags!

what a great deal...the rare times I go into a thrift store I don't find any nice bags....maybe a Coach and not for a low price like that

here is a blonde meredith...maybe lighter than your bag

I've been trying to avoid thrift stores, estate and garage sales, online sale sites, purse departments at stores, etc., because I already have too many bags - but sometimes I weaken and I find myself on the hunt!

Did it hold up to a bath? I'm always afraid with non-Coach bags to dunk. Once I dunked a Fossil and glue stains appeared at all the seams.

I've just about given up on thrift stores. They don't have the bargains they used to. Every time I find a thrift store that is good, I'll go back a few months later and they've raised the prices more than triple.

I know what you mean! I think that the thrift store staff that had the NWT Kooba Sloan marked for $3 didn't know that Kooba was a designer bag!

There is a thrift store near me that sometimes offers discounts, like after you donate items.
