Issues with new DE matte leather?

Hi all,

I was able to order the damier ebene Alma BB through client concierge (yay!). I had read here that the leather on damier ebene bags are pretty much rain and weather proof. However, after my purchase I read that new (post 2019?) DE bags have a new matte leather, and a couple people have posted here that even light rain has ruined their leather.

I’m wondering if this is a pretty common problem with the new damier ebene bags, or if the other cases were a hopefully tiny minority.
Can anyone with newer DE bags weigh in with their experience? Thanks!

I don’t have any problems with the leather parts of my Speedy DE but the corners are looked pretty bad just after 3-4 months

The leather on my speedy b25 DE is still impeccable after 1.5 years. I rotate bags and I keep a custom pillow shaper when the bag is dormant. I bought the Alma bb DE this year so I can quote on wear and tear just yet. Since the Alma has more leather I am more careful with the bag.

That is horrible. My Speedy B25 DE from 2017 still looks brand new. No issues with leather or corners. You should take it in to your store.

I don't like the new matte DE leather so haven't bought DE since they changed it.

I noticed when shopping last week for a speedy b25 that when I looked closer at the DE version, the leather trim looked plastic like to me with its the matte finish. Compared to my Rivington Cabas and Favorite PM bags in DE I bought 10 years and 6-1/2 years ago which was shinier. Odd that it looks less plastic like to me with the shiny version. Maybe that’s just what I was accustomed to? I ended up going with a Speedy b25 in mono this time. I may revisit the DE in the Alma style.

Agreed. The speedy DE matte leather has a rubbery feel to me. I dunno if it’s me, but the leather handles and bottom of my Alma DE feel less rubbery until I touch the strap.

Thank you for your feedback! I’m sure you enjoy the more carefree wearability of your Alma DE. I’m more concerned with mono’s vachetta which might make me go crazy. But thought I’d try it! Next purchase: I might see how the Speedy DE compares side by side with the Alma DE. Happy holidays!

It’s hard not to want speedy in both monogram and DE. Though, I do wish I bought the DE before the monogram. Although I use the speedy mono during Florida winter due to less rain and the DE during the rainy summers.
