Hi! I am ready to pull the trigger on love bracelet but have been reading that people have issues with the screw. How prevalent is this issue? Do most buyers have this issue? What do you do if you lose the bracelet because of the screw, other than having insurance? Does Cartier replace it? TIA!

Hi!

First, get a high(est)-quality screwdriver (Bergeon or PB Swiss (for example), with a profile that fits the screw exactly)

If you plan to keep wearing the bracelet, use a tiny wee bit of thread locker on the screw, none but: Loctite 222 Purple Jewelry Adhesive low strength.

The only substitute would be a likewise tiny wee bit of nail polish. This is a "worst case, you absolutely must wear the bracelet and don't have the loctite" type of substitute. It will smell for days, as it takes ages to dry, but the screw won't wobble/vibrate loose and is still removable with a high-quality screwdriver.

Insurance will carry a hefty premium if you want to insure against "loss". That's close to an "all risk" policy. Expensive.

Kind regards,
Oliver

Oliver, I couldn't agree more on the use of Loctite and an after market screwdriver. Between my wife and myself we have several traditional Love bracelets. All have Loctite and absolutely no issues with screws coming loose.

Thanks for the tips, Oliver. Pardon my ignorance but is the issue with the screwdriver more than the bracelet?

Hi!

Not ignorant at all! Ask away! :)

A high quality screwdriver really is essential. The blade/profile needs to fit the head of the screw perfectly, and the handle will allow to transmit the necessary force. (Not really much at all per se, but the screwdriver coming with the bracelet is a joke and is designed for use with two fingers at best ...)

Additionally, once the thread locker goes on/ has dried, you need a better screwdriver to unscrew, as there's a little more "break away" torque needed.

So basically: Better screwdriver = more control over the screw and torque used, more or less the only option once thread locker goes on = you're all in all less likely to loose the bracelet. :)

The bracelet itself is really not the problem. :) It's the screw that either sits too loose from the get go/ or vibrates out over time and is not/ was never tightened properly. Both screw and bracelet get marred/dinged because of unsuitable screwdrivers (cam out).

Kind regards,
Oliver
