I am thinking of getting a big funky retro cocktail ring: not crazy money but still something nice (18k and a big stone). What do we think would be most wearable: green (peridot or tourmaline), turquoise or lapis or amethyst?

I think it depends on the color palette that you wear. for me, any of those colors would work; however, I do find that I like the look of turquoise with EVERY other color that I wear. I would lean toward turquoise. for me, it's a great accent color with neutrals and colors...I especially love turquoise & purple together.

I love big chunky amethyst rings, but i'm always scared that vintage gemstone rings are synthetic. Are you looking for true vintage? or vintage style?
I agree with frick&frack- what goes best with your wardrobe? If I had to pick from the gemstones offered above it would definitely be a nice medium toned, vivid purple amethyst with blue and red flashes:drool:

I agree with Frick that turquoise seems to go with anything!

My second favorite ring, a chunky green amethyst, goes well with everything. A nice soft green, it's very neutral. I get tons of compliments on it. But really any of your choices are beautiful! So hard to capture it's actual color.
