Is this right? Or should I move on to another store?

This post is about the 12mm gold ring I just wrote about awhile ago. Kinda...

The place I'm looking to purchase the ring from has no return policy.
They do not have the ring IN their store. They have a book they have to order it from and have it sent to their store AFTER I buy it. Again, they have no return policy. If it doesn't fit they said they would resize it for free, but if I don't like the ring there's nothing I can do about it. SO I would have to purchase something I've never seen before.

I called them and whoever I talked to said it's a special order.
I could understand if it was a pc made just for me...but just a plain band?? That's not a special order!! They already have them made, they just have to ship it! The last guy I talked to on the phone wasn't very nice...that might be the deal breaker right there......

So.... risk $400 bucks...or go somewhere else???

Sorry that this is kinda two posts about the same ring. They're kinda about diff things. :P

Here's a pic of what I'm looking for...again..lol!

12mm, sz5, 10 or 14k. Solid. Around $400.

It is a special order to them as they don't want to have the merchandise hanging around the store. A ring that wide is not commonly sold so they're probably thinking they'll get stuck with it should you not like it. I know, that stinks, but I do understand where they are coming from too. Most gold companies have a generous return policy for standard items, items readily stocked, but on items that they actually have to crank out in 1 or 2's, not so generous. You may still be able to find someone who will bring it in for you without any obligation on your part. Can you get it brought in in another metal perhaps so you can at least see that width on your finger? Good Luck!!

A lot of jeweler have steel "mocks" of their rings used for display/sizing purposes. Can they let you try a similar piece on? Will they at least give you stored credit if you don't like the piece after you've ordered it? Keep in mind that the thicker the band, the larger the size you will probably need. Be sure to go with at least 14k gold. 10k is less than 50% pure gold. It looks nice though!

Looks like a basic Stuller stock piece. There are lots of jewelers who can buy them, though they each price them differently. Call around.

I agree - go elsewhere. Especially if the guy you spoke with gave you a bad feeling and wasn't very nice. I think CS is so important, and being unfriendly and not offering returns is ridiculous. Say adios to them and find it somewhere better :D

I can't remember the name of the company without going back... but the comment about it looking like Stullers?? stock rings, I called them. They had what I wanted but couldn't buy it from them. They said to call Kays.

Well, I called Kays. I asked the lady if she could look up what I needed. This is what I got. "DO you just have really massive hands?? I've been working here for 24yrs and have NEVER seen someone what something that big. You really want that??" She was really snotty... lol!

I looked up the one on ebay. Lol, I made him an offer, ya never know! I saw that he had sold another one like it for a way lower price :p

I'm getting kinda fed up with the whole "What's wrong with you!?! That's so big! Nobody wears those!" from sellers. It makes me cranky. LOL!

Thank you to everyone! I'm getting some really good ideas! Here's a couple more pics I found with someone that has the same size band.

Oh! And yessum.. I wear a size 4-4/12. When I tried on a 10mm in a sz 5 it fit perfect :) Thanks for letting me know!

Just wanted to share...

First, regarding policy:

A lot of places do this, but I tend to go to jewelers who have a good enough relationship with a vendor that they will get a piece to show, and IF you like it you buy it. If not, back it goes. With a piece like the one you are looking at, it is rather basic (albeit beautiful!) so there should be NO issue with a return. After all, it is a standard ring that the vendor makes a TON of.

Second, regarding mm size...

My wife is 5'3" and 105lbs.. She wants a 9-10mm diamond eternity band. Every place we have gone to looks at her like she is nuts, and then asks me "do I know what that costs!?"

I want to puke. Not that I am snobby, but typically I am wearing a $35k timepiece when they ask me if I know what it costs to make said ring...

Don't be offended. It's typical. People are usually mentally challenged. If you like it and can afford it, GO FOR IT! :)

I think the ring you have chosen is supercool and timeless :) And for $400ish, you can't go wrong. :) One thing I would suggest, is to ask about the gram weight. Make sure it is 10+ grams so it has weight and thickness to it! I wear a right hand ring that is 28 grams and it is a clunker but it feels AWESOME! :)

Good luck, don't be discouraged by dumba$$ sales people, and go to a store that has a relationship where they get samples. ESPECIALLY of items like this which are stock pieces and not custom. :)

jenbuggy - I got the same comments when I was looking for my ring. Everyone was trying to talk me out of a 12mm band. Too big, too uncomfortable...blah, blah, blah.

But I bought it anyhow and I got tons of compliments on it. (until it was stolen but that's another story)

So don't let any one talk you out of it.

Thanks Wired1!!

I'm looking at this one on Ebay right now. It 12mm, 10k yellow gold. It's 11.94 grams for $429.00. BUT they have a return policy! Yippy! I have 14 days from when (if) I get it to send it back. I made an offer, LOL! I play dirty on ebay. We'll see what she says. There's a link for it in one of the comments above.

It that an ok price for what I'm looking for??

I looked at the last one she sold. It went for $389.58. I made an offer of $390.00 plus shipping. I like to haggle :P
