I purchased my first Gucci purse while traveling today. I was all happy and excited until I looked inside the shopping bag and found my purse inside the dust bag without a box... I was confused by this and when I asked the SA why my purse came without a box, she said they ran out of the boxes and she said she’ll mail me one if I’d like. Is this normal? I’ve never had this happen before.. I feel like this kind of ruined the whole experience and makes me wonder if she’ll even really mail me the box

It actually does happen that a boutique will run out of specific box or bag sizes. If you really want the box, I suggest you visit your local Gucci store, explain, and ask for a box. It’s no big deal.
it happened to me years ago but in an Hermes store in NYC. I bought an H belt and unfortunately at that time they ran out of box specific for the belts. so the sa just wrapped my belt in their white paper and placed it inside the orange box. it's not a big deal for me though.
It's only been recently Gucci have given boxes with bags and dept store bought Guccis often come with the store's packaging. So perhaps the SA didn't realise what it meant to you to have all the 'bits'.
If you can, and haven't moved on yet, pop in and say you don't mind having a different Gucci bag so long as it fits. Either that or contact Gucci CS and say how disappointed you feel. Enjoy your bag though.
I've had Chanel mail me a box when they ran out of the size that fit my bag; the SA followed through on her own, and sent it as promised (this was not at my usual location). I've also had a local Gucci store provide a box and remove a security sensor, when the sending store in another state left the sensor on and didn't provide a box. It was no problem at all, and in both cases, the SAs were very polite and accommodating. Don't let it ruin your excitement; it's easily resolved!
