I recently purchased a Python Gucci Disco bag (preloved). I plan to wear my this bag as one of my weekend bags and I would rotate this bag among a couple of other crossbody as well. So I wo not wear it all the time. Siince it is python does anyone know how this particular bag wears and if I wou have to be careful with it? If someone could please let me know as I have a short period of time to decide if I shoud keep or return this beauty, which I attached below. TIA!

It's stunning! Congratulations!

I think you should keep it, especially if this is your first python bag. It'll make a nice statement whenever you use it.

Python is not difficult to maintain, but there are some things that will happen to python with age. The scales will start to lift a bit with age, which will end up revealing the off-white colour behind the scales and disrupt the hand-painted plum colour of the surface.

The extent of the lifting will be higher on areas that are more prone to wear and tear, like the corners, opening, and the strap. To minimize the lifting, be sure to avoid abrasion to the surface of the python, especially against the grain.

The lifting of the scales is a hallmark of genuine python skin (since the embossed python cannot do this), and I think it adds to the look of luxury of your bag. It's like Louis Vuitton's use of Vachetta leather trim, which darkens over time and develops a patina. Some people like how it adds to the look of the bag, while others don't like how the bag won't look brand new after a few uses.

If you don't like the look of the lifting of the scales, then return the bag.

Thank you so much this was very helpful! I think I will keep it as it is really pretty. I really love the patina on an LV bag, looks very vintage and classic. Sounds like this Gucci will be the same when it ages.

the bag is beautiful. I have several python bags. one way u can avoid the lift, or at least reduce it is to make sure you do not store the bag in an ultra dry place. I've had many of my bags over a decade and none have lifted. get a humidifier to add a little moisture if u live in a very dry climate.

Gucci's python is excellent, I have several Gucci python bags, though not a Disco. My Disco is suede so also not exactly carefree, but with such a small bag I'll just wear it under my coat if it looks like rain.

Thank you! I think I may carry a small plastic bag, just in case of bad weather.
