My daughter and her boyfriend are diamond shopping. They went to a reputable jeweler and saw an emerald cut stone 1.04 carats, D color, VS2 (eye clean), excellent cut, and excellent symmetry. I went with her today to see it. She wanted my opinion.
I think the stone is gorgeous!
They are getting a discounted price of $6600, which I think is great. I thought they would want $8000. Her boyfriend thinks he can get it for less money at the diamond mart. She would prefer to get it from this jeweler, and I agree with her.

Does anyone have an opinion on the stone and its price?

TIA

I'd need more information and I'd need a LOT of photos. That's not enough info. Who graded this stone? What lab specifically? Who gave it the excellent cut and symmetry? A reputable lab won't really give cut grade on fancies and an emerald cut qualifies as a fancy. Did this jeweler provide an Idealscope and ASET for your daughter and her boyfriend to view the stone under and explain how those scopes work and what the views mean?

He might be able to get a cheaper stone at he "diamond mart" but what exactly would he get for that price?

Agreed. We need lots more info, background on the jeweler, the stone, certificates, can the stone be individually appraised, it is guaranteed by the jeweler as stated and if not can be exchanged or replaced, is it laser inscribed, has it been tested in front of the couple with a duotester, were they allowed to view it with a microscope, is it guaranteed not to be treated in any way or enhanced, with a D color color enhancement is a risk that needs to be taken into account, very importantly who is the jeweler, check BBB and in any way you can to ensure the reputability, please do not take this lightly, it is a very serious issue. Most definitely NO diamond mart, you really do not want your daughter to end up with something substandard. The most important thing is trust here, use a jeweler you can fully trust.
