Just wondering.

Perhaps a Luggage/baggage/travel bags forum somewhere?

I'd like input and user's opinions on luggages and travel bags such as TUMI, Rimowa, and Samsonite.

So...

Which one do you fancy?

FWIW, I tend to favor Tumi & Samsonite (for durability) and use Eagle Creek packing cubes; however, DH loves his Victorinox roll-on suitcase b/c it has an internal pocket structure that negates the need for the Eagle Creek packing cubes.

I've learned over time that lots of pockets on a travel bag/suitcase are actually a bad thing (for me, YMMV) -- I'd rather have a huge internal space that I'll organize with packing cubes.

i have a lot of tumi and i've been happy with it in general BUT the larger wheelies are really heavy so you can't actually put that much in them before they become too heavy to check in. the 29" has probably been my worst purchase in that sense, although it's been really good for moving  on the positive side, a lot of their cases are expandable, i love that.

my mother started buying rimowa about a year ago and i love it, when i replace my larger luggage that's what i'll go with. they roll really nicely and are much lighter than tumi, plus the larger bags have four wheels so you can just stand them up and push them along instead of having to drag them behind you if you're feeling lazy or if it's really crowded. they obviously aren't expandable though, so for my smaller carry-on size bags i might stick with tumi because the extra few inches of depth really help when it comes to a small bag.

We currently bought 2 Samsonite rollers in gray/blue.

After baggage claim I was surprised it got frayed so soon.

I don't mind the dirt it accumulated (it's as if the handlers dragged it in soil), but fraying after just one trip?!!!!

And I kept telling my hubby that samsonite luggage is good despite the $200+ pricetag! I wonder if their warranty covers it though.

So disappointed.

We bought some Heys 4WD hard-sided luggage for the trip/cruise we're just finishing up - we wanted something light and not too expensive (3 pieces - 29 inch, 26 (?) inch and carry on totalled about $380), knowing it would get beaten up during all the baggage handling... So far so good - they really are extremely light and the 4 wheels make them really easy to roll around even if you don't have the handle up. We're just waiting now to take our flight home - so watch them get trashed on the return journey after I spoke too soon in recommending them!

for undercarriage i use tumi! extremely lightweight and durable! SO DURABLE I BET YOU CAN TROW IT FROM THE TOWERS IN KUALA LAMPUR AND YOU CAN PICK IT UP AND ROLL AWAY!

for overnight trips i just use vuitton, but have been looking at hermes!

We need to get some new luggage, and I don't care what name brand it is, but it needs to be sturdy and should last at least a few years worth of the airlines' careless tossing around of my luggage. I know the brand that I will buy will not be designer.

I love my TravelPro wheeling suiter. It is huge (the largest allowed) and weighs 20 lbs empty. Very durable. And I use a Briggs & Riley garment bag which is excellent. Very sturdy, with lots of external pockets.

I have Victorinox and the handle broke the 2nd time. Was so disapppointed. I have some travelpro, that looks like it's going bust at the seams when I pack it (I tend to push the 50lb mark), but has kept on going with my dad commenting on its sturdiness. And I am thinking of trying Tumi, but have heard good things about Briggs and Riley...

I use Tumi and Samsonite. My Tumi suitcase is expandable and quite large (it may be one of the largest sizes they do) and even though I love it cause I can put so much in it, it is heavy. So I always worry about filling it because it will go over the weight limit and be too heavy for anyone to carry. As it is 2 people had to carry my suitcase up the stairs last time I travelled! haha
My brother has an even larger Tumi - they stopped making that size though, its ridiculously large! But Tumi is very sturdy and well made imo and a good investment. Samsonite is also good, I have a couple of them in smaller sizes.

I have some Lands' End that are 20 years old, still in good working order. I recently bought a Lands' End Carry-on with wheels, because they didn't make those 20 years back. I haven't used it yet, but I expect it will be the same excellent quality as are their other items. I got a bright coral-pink color, LOL, won't be hard to spot it at baggage claim in case I need to check it!

Aesthetically, I love Globe-Trotter! I think they are absolutely beautiful.

I just bought a Zero Halliburton, which is similar to Rimowa.

I also prefer not to buy designer luggage for check-in. Carry-on, however, is different.

I've learned my lesson the hard way! Saved up for over 6 months to buy a brand new Louis Vuitton Pegase 60 and to my shock horror, after travelling by plane earlier this month, it suffered quite a few knocks which resulted in scratches from top to toe. I nearly died when DH pulled my beautiful baby off the baggage collection area. I almost didn't claim it as my own because it looked far from new. I realise that the purpose of a travel suitcase is for that reason, to use when travelling, but OMG if I'd have thought it through I would've much sooner invested my hard earned dollars in carry on luggage (and for the price I paid, a handbag and wallet) instead.
