Is the mini bag trend here to stay?

I stopped just short of buying a drawstring bucket bag three/four years ago. I knew they weren’t for me and yet I was tempted because they had come on so strong and every design house was introducing its own version. Then gone. I expect minibags will be the same except for crossbody designs that can at least function for our things.

But then I was wrong about the 6” heels and skinny jeans that I thought would be in thrift shops within six months ... so who only knows.

I rarely see women in the real world carrying mini bags, they have actual purses and totes. The only time I really see small bags is at events, like concerts/operas/plays, dinners, and sometimes in places like a coffee shop. Mini bags are more of a trend I see on social media and TPF, tbh. The mini bags are like the mini cell and flip phones, eventually people realized they didn't function all that well and the big phones came back.

I agree. I don't often see mini bags IRL. And, when I do see them, for the most part they're on teen / early 20's women. I'm guessing it's because this age group may not have the need to carry family / child things as much as older women???

I think many petite and / or younger women will continue to enjoy mini bags because they are functional for their particular silhouettes and lifestyles...Just like moms with mini vans of kids are still carrying huge bags that have "gone out of style" because they need to haul a bunch of stuff.

That being said, I think those who wear them just to be fashionable / trendy will switch to the "next big thing" when it appears.

And, I think the majority of us who've dabbled in mini bags as a curiosity, quickly grew weary of the incoveninece of not having our "stuff" with us. So, while we'll keep small-ish crossbodies in our arsenal for hands free / busy times, those truly teeny bags will never appear in our closets ever again.

I couldn't have said it better!

I have 2 mini bags and have cut myself off from buying anymore. I like them but sometimes I dont want to worry about fitting things in "just right". I think it's in the coach forum where they tease about purses just large enough to fit a Splenda packet.

I think small cross bodies will stick around. Not sure about true minis. Maybe they will be like clutches - a mainstay but only in limited situations.

When I don’t have my baby with me, I prefer small crossbody bags for running errands and shopping. I have too many scarred memories of sore shoulders from carrying around the kitchen sink all day.

It comes and goes like all other trends, but there’s plenty of reasons why they come back: proportions, weight of bag, etc. I know there will be a time when they're impossible to find (my wallet keeps hoping), but I'll still carry them throughout because they work for me.

Hard to say, i do see some mini bags out there and WOC, or just people literately carrying only a wallet. I think the trend of it will die back but not die out, rather be an option in collections.

I need mini bags for dinner, events, and weddings etc. Couldn't live with out them. Now that the smartphone does almost everything, I don't see the trend dying down. Even my kids dont carry heavy backpacks anymore, all the textbooks are online.

I see a lot of mini and small bags where I live and I have several mini bags myself. I don't work full time any longer and don't need a large bag or large tote bag except when traveling since I'm not leaving the house for 12 hours at a time on a daily basis. I also don't like to haul a big bag around when I'm grocery shopping or running errands or out to dinner either so minis and small bags are perfect for me. I also use them for concerts, theater, museums, sporting events, you name it. They also look great for formal events like weddings and showers and other parties. Now that my phone does more and more, I don't carry a lot of stuff that used to be in paper or card format. My kids are grown so no snacks or hand wipes or diaper stuff needed. Of course, I still have medium and larger bags for those times that I do need more stuff or if I just want one for a particular outfit but the mini is part of my permanent arsenal I think.
